Ford / Lincoln Diagnostic Code: 36

So my dad buys a used 1999 Lincoln Town Car (on ebay no less!) and is now having a bit of an issue with it. It started after he tried to program a couple new wireless door remotes. He had some trouble getting through the process which apparently consists of turning the ignition on/off several times in a short time period and then pressing any button on the remote(s). Ever since the airbag sensor light has been lit up once the auto door locks engage after shifting to drive. He's also apparently getting a Diagnostic Code 36 off the computer but has not been able to find any information about this particular code. Anyone have any ideas?

Thats an unusual code. OBDII codes are all 4 digit. Sounds like a trip to a shop to re-read the codes or maybe that code 36 is some manufacturer only code that a dealer needs to check out.
Good luck. I hate car problems.

Are you sure code 36 is the correct number? I don't think there is a 36 for ford/lincoln.

Instead of jumping the harness and counting the flashes/beeps try to get an OBD II scan tool and get the 4 digit number. Autozone does it for free.

Try a reset on the computer, it's a fault code for the airbags and it may be a false code from a sensor glitch. If a reset doesn't work, it's a faulty sensor or low air pressure in the air suspension.

I'd also consider checking the switch that controls the air suspension. When you change a tire on that model range of Town Car, there is a switch to turn off or deflate the air suspension so you can pull the tire off without having it move around. I'm wondering if that switch is disabled... Its a long shot though.

I'll double check with my father on the code. Thanks for the leads thus far.

It probably just wants to be a NASCAR and is trying to let your dad know what number to paint on the doors and hood. Sadly though, Jeremy Mayfield already has 36. 32-35 are available though, as is 37.

My Crown used to lock apon shifting into drive. I solved that problem by cutting the wires.
