Lunch and a new bike

So an old friend of mine and I met up with jyossarian today, who by happy coincidence is also in Toronto right now. We were too busy eating (empanadas and a salad, for those of you with a need for precision) and talking to take lots of pictures, but it was a great lunch, and I had a lot of fun.

The empanada place just happened to be down the street from the LBS carrying the Jamis Nova I was drooling over earlier this week. You can guess where this is going.

So here I am with my two bikes, my old Dahon and the new Jamis. My expression is one of pleasure mixed with pain as I try to figure out how I'm going to get them both back to China.

And here's one with jyo, showing the Foo family resemblance. Regrettably, I don't have a photo of the Jamis with jyo's sexy IRO.

I took the bike for a ride after dinner today, and it is simply incredible. I took around the city on the roads (it flies!) and even some singletrack (I almost died --- waaay too technical -- but discovered that leaves make a great cushion for a classic clipless fall).

I was too busy riding it to take more pictures, but I'll post them when they're ready.

Also, to make sure this stays in Foo, please feel free to comment on how the bike's colour scheme reminds you of pie.

Edit: And, of course, thanks again to Jyo, who was massively helpful in the purchase of the bike!

Great looking bike, gb. You were right, the Brooks and that bike go together like [insert pie analogy here]. That thing looks like it'll tear-ass around with the best of 'em.

I like the Dahon, too. I'd like to pick up a folder someday, just for the hell of it.

That bike is niiiice. Funny thing, we all took turns riding it (****'s friend, me, the LBS manager, ****) and we all agreed it's an excellent bike. The shallow drops (kinda like mtb drops) are comfy. Air, you might like them for your bike. Then we started discussing the next round of mods (saddle, inline x-levers, biq squeezy horn, slicks, etc.) and of course, the "n+1" mathematics of bf.net. Thanks to goobs for letting me tag along and bring the pressure of bf.net and the internet on him to buy the bike. Enjoy it!

Are those the Ritchey BioMax bars? I have those on my LHT, and they're pretty nice. You're not going to get down super-low with them, but for a non-racing bike, that's not too much of an issue.

Your bike reminds me of pie. Hot steel pie!!!!! Congrats. If you decide it is too much trouble to get both rigs back to China, I will store the Jamis for you at a very reasonable rate.

Hm. I think I sees me some Speedplays? What size bike is that, gbcb? <opportunistic Vega look> And are those X-series? <hopeful Vega look>

In any case, a very sweet bike. I was just caressing my ol' Blue Boy (LeTour) this evening. I'm gonna ride him on the trainer tomorrow, now that I have a new cadence sensor just for him.

In Vega's defense, Speedplay does have SPD in it.

Note the roadie frame, off-road drops and knobby tires. THAT'S a UMB.

Thanks, everyone. Yup, they're Ritchey BioMax bars... and they might not put me into a super-aero position. But when I was flying down a hill and passing moving cars, that didn't seem to be an issue

Of course, you're all welcome to try it out if any of you stop by Shanghai (Yes, VV -- I *will* get them both back... somehow...).

Now I need some pie.

I think I'll be all right with the Blackberry. Canadian technology, eh? Plus, I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to personal technology that isn't made of 631 steel

Yup, it was the DVP -- to think I lived in Toronto for five years, and didn't ride it until yesterday!

Good call on the persimmons, Zorro.

Nice bike(s)! Love the burnt orange color. That was the color that we were trying to get for my bike, but I guess it must be in really high demand right now.

Will we ever get to see jyo's face?

I'm ok. Maybe I was a little blue cuz I realized it wasn't me getting the new bike.

Only one way to see it and that's in person. Besides, the camera adds 10 lbs to my face.
