DOT asserts "Honking Works"

The US Dept. of Transportation has initiated a new campaign designed to improve rush hour traffic flows. As part of their research for this campaign, they studied the issue of honking, and concluded that honking horns actually help increase average traffic speeds.

Full report here.

The video was funny.

But seriously... After driving around Panama City Panama, I would have to agree. I use my horn all the time now to warn people I am there or coming over.

That settles it. If a video of unknown origin on the internet says it's true, I'm getting an Air Zound today.

that video was great. i like the diagram showing that all the cars will move over and allow you to pass once you begin honking.

Anyone out there not know that The Onion is a "comedy" paper? While often based on real news take anything you read with a grain of onion salt.

If a video produced by a news network I've never heard of says it's true, I'm gonna wire my car horn to the ignition so it's always on.

I'm not sure what city that is taken from. Here in Austin, someone laying on the horn either has a faulty horn, or runs the risk of their automobile horn being forcibly inserted in their rectum by surrounding drivers.
