Or it could be that (s)he happens to like the font and wants to know which it is. I have to say that I really like the look of it myself, so if anyone knows, please tell us.

I'd like to amend my answer. It looks more like it might be Helvetica Neue Black and not Bold. Keep in mind that whomever made the number plate could have been a sign company with a similar version of the font that isn't truly Helvetica Neue. Or they could be using stick on numbers made from that specific type or an unlicensed version that will be similar.

Here's a sample of Black and Bold, each increased about 110% taller to match the photo.

Whether it be Arial or Helvetica Neue, most people can't tell the difference.

Hehe...actually the act of calling a typeface a "font" is considered blasphemy.

I have twinges of it myself, sometimes. I'll recognize fonts in advertisements and the like.

(By the way, neither Neue Black or Bold are exactly the font, but I think it'll do.)

So is the *size* of these numbers/typeface measured in picas, points, cm or inches?

Light years. Very small values. Probably something like 1.2x10^(-17) light years or so.

i've been in the illustration/graphic design/print industry for some time and i still have to file through about 2,000 examples before i can figure out which font it is... or isn't.

my GF gets upset when i mix up print terminology something fierce. now i screw up terms just to fire her up. LOL!

knowing serif or sans narrows it down though. that alone took me a year to remember. musta been all that beer i drank from aluminum cans.

stupid cans...
