Things I learned on my ride tonight...

1. Don't say to someone riding right behind you "Ooh, look at the pretty sunset" then as they are looking make a sudden stop to take a picture.

I learned this gem of wisdom from my wife, as this is exactly what she did to me tonight.

Result: Scratched Brifter hood, torm bar tape and a twisted ankle (mine not hers).

I also learned (as if I didn't already know) that when crossing train tracks you should cross at 90 degrees and not veer in the same direction while looking for traffic etc.
I also learned this from my wife.

Result: A bent rear derauiller hanger and some minor scratches and bruises (hers not mine)

All in all, not the most fun bike ride of all time.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Sucks, man.

Last night I was riding from my house up to the lab to do about 2 minutes worth of work when I heard this "sritch"ing sound followed immediately by my crank not turning. I had hit a bump and somehow the rear derailleur cable had gotten hooked on the back of the pedal. I totally shredded the cable housing. This was after ~4 miles in on an 11 mile trip. Since I was already past the worst hill I figured, screw it I'll keep going. It was a lot of fun to ride with one gear for 18 miles. I ended up shoving a stick in the rear der parallelogram to keep it off of the small gear. I had to laugh it off as cadence training. Good times!

That screaming "NO SHOCKS!! NO SHOCKS!! OW OW OOF!!" While test riding a road bike on over inflated tires and going over potholes makes everyone in the vicinity look at you funny.

What also makes you look funny is when you're pulling leaves out of your underbridges because you tried to show off your mtb skills in front of some fellow bfers. Which happened directly after you face planted the ground.

Oooh oooooh. Kick it back old school.

When you get on a crusty used bike and don't realize the pedals resemble a big U and you try to pedal anyways, and you hear heavy laughter coming from behind. You'll figure out quickly the bike won't go.
