Software Development

I am not entirely sure if this should go here or in "advertise your services" but as it's not cycling related and there will also be no funds involved I'm leaning towards here.

I am about to go into my final semester of Software Engineering, as part of this last semester we have to take a course which is essentially a giant project. Here's the tricky part, the project has to be done for an actual company, and it can't be one any group members (projects will be done by groups of 4-6) work for as we cannot accept any sort of payment for this work.

So far my group is coming up with nothing as far as potential clients/projects are concerned so I decided to come to you and see if anyone here needs anything done/knows of anything that needs to be done. The project would need to be small enough to be completed within a few months, and would be done by December at the latest, though we're allowed to start/finish early which is why we're looking now.

"Expertise" of the team:
-C#/VB.Net/ASP.Net
-PHP/MySQL (or pretty much any sort of web development)
-Java (although we all have minimal practical experience with this)

We will also all be taking an OpenGL (3d graphics rendering stuff) course at the same time and would prefer a project dealing with that, however we know the odds of someone needing something like that are slim to none.

So if you need some sort of software project done and are interested I have more details (project outline etc.) from the prof so send me a PM.

Sorry if this post is misplaced and should've been elsewhere.

I'll take a look and see what we have in the pipeline when I go back to work tomorrow...I'm never one to turn down a little free help.

Awesome, thanks

Between the 3 of us who are actually good programmers we do have pretty good knowledge of other programming languages so if there is some sort of company standard that needs to be adhered to we can probably work around it.

Sorry, no ideas for the project, but I just wanted to say that I studied Software Engineering for three semesters before switching to Biology. I nearly killed myself that last semester. That's all...

Well IF we did anything, there would be the usual project documents that would include specifications.

Sounds like my Software Engineering senior project (graduated '05). We worked on some inventory management software for a company in Scotland. Good luck with your search..

I can ask around a bit too. I'm a software engineer as well and they may have some project they may allow something like this on. I'll let you know if something comes up.

Thanks guys, I appreciate you taking the time to look into this, even if nothing comes of it

I love how this project is set up... we're not allowed to do it for any company we've ever worked for and the teacher gives no help in finding something. Most people have no contacts outside of their previous employers, all of my contacts are for companies that require crazy security clearances to be able to do work for them.

Hi, perhaps I might have something for you. I have a concept that we are working on here which is called a Tree Avalanche - you can see what we are doing at www.treeavalanche.org.

I would like to make it more interactive. Basically showing based on number of trees planted how long before trees take over the world.

For good or for bad - I am a Software engineer (architect really) with more than 25 years experience. That might be a plus or a minus for you.

Even though you are not supposed to get paid, if you do it and I accept it - I will give your team credit on the website.

Oh, I meant to say - I will only be checking the forums about once a day so don't worry if I don't respond rapidly.

Thanks - in October I am going to focus on pushing the idea. The more trees planted, the faster we take over the world.
