New puppy

I just wanted to show off pics of my new puppy. I got her from a local Dobermann rescue. Here she is, 3 month old Wilma.

Very nice looking pup. What was she doing at a rescue?? She looks in great shape...

How does she get along with the other dog?

The breeder had several pure breed puppies and couldn't sell the last 4. She told the local rescue to take them or she was taking them to the pound where they would be euthanised. She just got spayed on Monday and is a great dog so far. She gets along with the poodle mutt just fine. She wants to play. The poodle is old and doesn't have much patience. The cats haven't gotten used to her yet either.

What a beauty! Forget the other dog. How does she get along with the cat?

Edit: I guess the cats and the poodle will educate her on the pecking order.

Cute puppy. The cats will get to know her and she the cats. Then the fun begins of chasing the cats around the house.

She's adorable!

Your poddle-mutt has such an awesome expression in the last pic of your first post, very "What is this thing and what is it doing here?" Very cute.

Good luck with the new pup!

Most Dobermans used to be build more along the lines of a greyhound. Then for some reason, people started to prefer a more heavily muscled look for the breed. My housemate's late dog was one of those smaller, sleeker Dobermans. That was a good thing. She was strong enough as it was.

The Dobermann is actually a cross between rotweillers and greyhounds.

The dobbie is a cross between several breeds. German Pinscher, Greyhound, rotti, and who knows what else. I guess Louis Doberman would know, but we can't ask him . In case you didn't pick up, I'm a dobbie owner. My red dobbie, Cooper, is now just over 4 years old. One of the best dogs I have ever had. The pic below is when he was around 2 years old. He's much leaner now.
I don't know what you're training plans on, but dobbies need structure. They are highly intelligent and become easily bored, which can lead to destructive behaviors. Again, I have no idea of your dog background but another tip with dobbies. Don't ever let them think they are the Alpha, you are. They're wonderful dogs. One of the easiest dogs to train because of their intelligence and desire to please their owner. She's a cutie and should make a great companion.

Beautiful little poochie.

I have two greyhounds to wrestle with at home myself.

Wow, that is a gorgeous dog. I've always wanted a Doberman. They're such beautiful dogs. Now, I want one. I don't know how a) my two smaller dogs (a mini schnauzer and beagle) would like a bigger dog in the house and b) how my small apartment with my family would hold up.

Dobermans are a tremendous amount of work. They're worth it, though, so perhaps consider one after college is over? There are Doberman rescue organizations all over, and they're full of great dogs who need an understanding and loving home. One thing you might consider is finding the Chicago chapter (I'm sure there is one.) and seeing if you can spend a little time at one of the foster homes. It'll give you a very clear picture of their good and bad points, and you can determine if the breed is right for you.

Dobermans have very long memories. I've heard stories of people running into the original breeder 10 years later and having their dog go crazy with joy to be meeting up with them again. I know losing a home is traumatic for all dogs, but I believe Dobies are more sensitive to it than many other breeds.
