Postal question

I will be sending something out of Dallas to Toronto with a Global Priority Envelope this monday. Now the USPS site claims it takes 6-10 business days to arrive. I wonder, since it is Toronto, and by golly that's closer to me than it is from Dallas to Seattle. I wonder how long it will sit at customs. Any ideas? Do you think it may be shorter than 6 business days? It's not like it's going to Egypt or anything.

Now you see why FedEx, UPS, and DHL are doing so well. Consider using them. I expect that the USPS, formerly a government agency, is still saddled with a number of arcane and restrictive rules for going over borders.

Do you have any idea what the cost difference is between the post office and a private shipper who uses a customs broker? It's many, many times more expensive to use a private shipping service.

To the OP, if you really want it there faster choose one of the faster options that the USPS offers, such as Global Express Guaranteed or Express Mail International. If for some reason you don't want to pay for those services than you'll just have to wait.
