Just back from Cayuga Triathlon!! My friend won his age group!
Forumite from Bicycling.com. Tons of fun - met up with 5 other forumites - 4 of which I've never seen but have talked to for the last 4yrs+
Great to put faces to Forum handles!!!
And I lost track of everyone in the early hours so I'm walking and walking, scored several new Cayuga Tri cowbells for my friends - and walking - and passed a Volunteer booth where they were signing in the registered volunteers and, thought wth, went and signed up. Got a nice brilliant orange (luv orange - schweet!!) Cayuga Tri shirt and went and set up the finish line by unloading bags of ice (no 10 pounders here - nooo, lets talk 40 lbs plus bags of ice!) and gatarade - then got snatched up to be a road marshall at the bicycling-running transition stage.
I'm good at road marshalling hehe. HEY - YOU - YOU CAN'T CROSS THE COURSE NOW - BICYCLISTS COMING - YEAH YOU! Hehe - They even gave me a flag and a WHISTLE. I'm goooooooood!!!
Oh yeah, and road a good 25 mile ride with the group the previous day - on a ride one of the local forumites set - "had a few hills in it, etc".
I call BS. Cayuga is in the finger lakes - watkins glen area. Small mountainous (gorgeous too) area. "few hills" bah.
And I wasn't able to take my roadbike - so I rode a friend's girlfriend's commuter bike. Ohhh, those many uphills were killers! Ones where my legs were shaking (and I do hills alot too!)
Have a terrific sunburn on my face, but had a great time. My friend came in first in his age group (yee haw - podium queen as he got his medal!) - and now has qualified for a Tri in Portland next June.
Watch out Portland people in June 2008 - Tude will be there!!!!
