At the age of 82.
At the age of 82.
I saw that new, which saddened me.
I used to watch his show, and the Dinah Shore show, and the Mike Douglass show in succession, when I was flat on my back for several weeks at the age of 12. The latter sucked. But I learned a lot from their shows, and saw a lot of great entertainment. Ahhh, such were the days of good ol' fashioned talk/variety shows (before the advent of "hit-the-guest-upside-the-head-with-a-chair-or-table" set-up)....
I guess all of those are before my time
I used to watch Jeopardy, and sometimes still do. Not a huge fan of Wheel of Fortune though.
Yeahhhhh. *nostalgic sigh* These were before your time, PC2. This was in the '70's. But it was great daytime entertainment....
Certainly, an era has passed....
Mike Douglas wasn't that bad, but Dinah Shore was better. Merv Griffin was great. You forgot Dick Cavett(or maybe you didn't) . Why can't we have a show like these nowadays? Does everything have to be a staged "reality" show?
DOes the Late show count as a show "like these"?
Ohhh, Scotty, I did, for the moment, forget Cavett. He was also great. You know the whole host of daytime folks to whom I was referrin' in general. That just doesn't exist anymore.
PC2, I did love me some Johnny Carson. And, before that, Jack Paar. Today, I'm usually in bed by the time the late-night guys come on (though I was usually up last year in care-giving mode). I do like Leno, and Carson Daly (I know his bandmaster, Joe, and Joe's dad and grandfather). Outside of that, I'll just say I miss good ol' daytime variety shows....
I wonder if his tombstone is going to be like he joked: an Emmy instead of a statue and an epitaph saying "I won't be back right after this message."

Ohhh, I loved me some WFB, jsharr.
Jeopardy is one of my favorite shows. RIP man.
You old farts need to go to bed.
Glad Merv Griffin was a producer of Jeopardy for your pleasure, Enthalpic.
I just miss the day-time talk-show host that he was. Not the game-show for which he became associated, if only as a background (Wikipedia) producer....
