IT LIVES! Proof that oatmeal lives!

I just discovered that oatmeal LIVES!!!!

Phooey on the more expensive little packs of instant oatmeal --- for $1.46 I got a big cylinder of the 1 minute oatmeal. Hmmmph. And so I made some- put in the microwave and hit go and started doing some other stuff, not paying attention to it.

DING! It's done.

Open the door and there was no oatmeal in the bowl at all -- it all left and spread out. (hmmmm, ok - how about a bigger bowl). So I repeated the instructions using a bigger bowl - and this time stood there and watched it. 'bout a minute in - I notice it expanding --- GOOD GRIEF - by the time I opened the door it was already trying to leave the bowl again! And it stayed that way - all puffed and with bubbles! - so I had to beat it back with a spoon!!!

Result - made too much, discovered microwave does something to 1 minute oatmeal kinda funny and makes it puff up.

Tomorrow - it will be "Fun with Fruit" as I add that into the oatmeal cauldron!

LOL.....that's funny.

Be careful with grapes. I think it was grapes.....they give off some kind of gas and can burst into flames in the nuker. I remember seeing a youtube vid on it once. Was it grapes?

You are microwaving it a bit too long. You have to play with the nuke time. I find that if I add the oats to the bowl, add the water and let it sit a minute or two to soak prior to nuking, I get better results.

BTW, I was watching a show on the Food Network called Unwrapped. The host was discussing popcorn. He stated that popcorn makes a great breakfast cereal. Pop it the night before, no butter or salt. Next morning, pour on some milk, add a little sugar, and voila, instant breakfast cereal.

Oh, by the way, I am made of oatmeal and school glue, so I too have proof that oatmeal lives.

hahahaha

My first microwave - hell I never used one.

Put a Bran muffin w/raisins in it and pushed a buncha numbers and hit go.

Realized I heard something - and looked in and there's my muffin - blowing smoke out of a hole where the raisin had been.

Got razzed for that one for a long time, especially since I usually had a sidejob cooking at different restaurants ...

1/2 cup oats to 1 cup water. Doesn't need more than a minute to a minute and a half.

That just doesn't sound right

Kinda sounds like Justin Wilson's french fry salad - where use used leftover french fries as you would boiled potatoes.

'Tude, this somehow reminds me of that episode of "Li'l Rascals," where there was something comin' up out of the pot on the stove, and Spanky and Alfalfa were beatin' it down with spoons!

My parents had to stretch the paycheck sometimes when we were growing up, and, on occasion, trips to the grocery store had to be postponed. At such times, as the cupboards became increasingly bare, my mother used to make popcorn (not microwave or "Jiffy-pop, but the kind you pour from a bag into a pan and cook on a stovetop), and we'd put that in tomato soup. We kids thought it was da bomb and so special of a treat. My mom just knew that a 2-lb bag of popcorn was cheaper than a box of saltines. To this day, popcorn in tomato soup is one of my "comfort foods."

Yes...oatmeal is alive and as you have seen, it expands and spreads when subjected to heat and/or radiation. This is why it is our duty to eat as much of it as we can stand, otherwise it will be kind of like a cross between kudzu and "The Blob" and will take over the entire world.
Make sure to eat some more tomorrow!

I make the oatmeal that comes in the packets quite often. I make two packets at a time, and add milk (7/8ths of a cup) to it. Microwave it on high for 1 minute. Stir. Mircrowave for another minute. (by now, it is starting to rise and puff up like yours). Stir. Nuke for 30 seconds. Stir. Nuke for 30 more seconds. Stir, and enjoy!

Yes, lots of stirring to keep it from overflowing from the bowl, but it's worth it.

foil potato chip bags are fun to nuke as well.

Never nuke a bar of dove soap though, bad things happen....
