Glad my wife is more patient than I am.....

...or we would be a one income family. She works (for 25 years) for a large corporation. They were sold a little over a year ago and for that year there have been a lot of changes. Layoffs, restructuring of what work is assigned to what department, outsourcing, etc.

The newest change begins today. They have trained certain supervisors in "office efficiency". Employees are now allowed only five personal items in their cubicle. Including coffee cup, purse, picture of spouse, etc. And the trained supervisors are organizing your drawers for you in the "most efficient configuration of supply accessibility".

No possible way anybody is going to organize my desk for me. I know where things work for me and that would be my last straw. Man, am I glad my wife isn't as hot-headed as I am.

She know's but she won't. Looking for a new job after 25 years scares her more than she's upset about what's going on there. And, they pay well + the insurance is very good.

At my job they started to pressure employees with changes as well. It was a ploy to get the old timers to quit, so they can hire new people at 1/3 the rate according to the new union contract.

Because of the cutbacks, lack of training ("too expensive") and the fact that people don't want to work as hard for so little money, the company is finally realizing their mistake. Now they are trying to hire people for more money, getting those who are making less, angry. "Why should the new guy get more pay and better benefits than me when I've been here a year?"

And my company is not a small company, either.

Company money reminded me of a good one. They bought a number of new 46" Plasma monitors and hung them throughout the building to display the current stock price. Like anybody cares! And I assume they did this in all the buildings.

We're hoping this will happen sooner rather than later. Hopefully this is just a new ownership "fad" and it will blow over eventually.

I think I would have a bowel movement in my desk drawer for the efficiency expert to organize.

Gonna have to consult with Chipcom on that one. He has requested a cabinet position and I do not want to upstage him.

OMG thats freakin horrible, I could never work in an environment like that.

They really must want people to quit. Ridiculous, I'd throw a brick through my bosses window.

Sounds like a great way of only having a workstation, and not a personal space.

Leads to the employees feeling like just a number, replaceable by the next one tomorrow.

I've been here over six years (out of school for 10) and I have my music streaming off the web, a bike as a background, more than five personal things etc.

Although as I type this I may be interviewing for another positon... the grass is always greener....

I work within a large organization. Even though my Division is a little more laid back than some of the other Divisions, we go do through some minor organizational changes every 4 years or so, and that can get a little cumbersome to deal with. These changes, though, mostly deal with what components handle what work... and in some cases they tell us, as a unit, how to do the work (e.g., fill out this form and send it to this section instead of that section), but never has anybody ever tried to organize individual workers like that. That level of control really smacks of 'big brother', which is somthing I guess we're pretty sensitive to

In some ways it's a shame, becuase I could use a little personal organizational guidance... The attached is a pretty accurate representation of how frustrated I feel in my office at times.
