Can't use Yahoo as default mail progam...

Prior to installing a new hard drive on my laptop, I had set my default email program to Yahoo mail. Now that I have the new drive in and all the programs loaded, Yahoo mail is no longer listed as an option. After a search, I found a suggestion that installing Yahoo messenger would add it to the list. I downloaded and installed messenger and it still is not listed as an option. Anyone have any ideas or solutions? I really don't want to use Outlook or Outlook Express.

What is set as default now? What comes up when you click an email link like joeblow@nowhere.com?

Looks like you have to install Yahoo Messenger.

Or maybe not...

Just tried this myself and it did not work.

I believe Yahoo changed the parameters of their email. You have to pay money to recieve the ability to extract your mail from their server. While before, at one time, this service was free. If you have a free account you will have to log in to their server via the yahoo login.

Hotmail = Micro$ofuct, that's why you can use it.

How about if you load the Mozilla e-mail client, will that let you use the Yahoo Mail http client?

ok, I figured it out....when you install yahoo messenger you have to choose to install "browser services". The first time I installed it, I had unchecked that one. It works perfectly now.

Yeah, thats why I switched to Gmail so I could use Outlook, and now Mozilla Thunderbird.

I was aware of paying for the service from Yahoo, but, yeah, I'm not gonna pay for email

Why would you use Yahoo or Hotmail when you could be using Gmail? Seriously...

um....because I want to? That's a lot shorter answer than writing an unnecessary justification.

I use pop.mail.yahoo.com just fine for my stuff. Just make sure you use the SSL based POP, off of port 995, as Yahoo turned off non secure access (which IMHO is a good thing.)

And it is superior in every other way. I think anybody who has yahoo or hotmail should try gmail and see what they think. You don't need an ivite anymore.

He has a business account with Yahoo to host a website, probably easier to keep emails associated with that website by using YahooMail.
