Plasma donation

There is a plasma donation place here in Iowa City and i'm told you can make, if i remember right, $200+ a month donating twice a week (so about 8 hours a month).

I could really use that money this year. Just wondering if anyone has ever done it, side effects etc.

I've never given blood (or plasma), don't recall ever having an IV of any kind, but "shots" generally do not bother me

My friend did it while in college in idaho. As far as he told me, other than the fact they have to test you or something to clear you, it's a great way to make money, and no side effects. You're body reproduces the plasma very quickly aswell.

I forgot I was interested in doing this too. I'm gunna go look on google for one in Cali.

I did a lot of blood donation at the Red Cross, the needle isn't that bad. I liked to watch them stick me. They always seemed to have nice, sharp needles. Yes, it does make a difference.

Ive done it- they put needles in both arms, and it can take about an hour (give or take a few minutes)
Sometimes Id feel dizzy for about 15 minutes afterward.

wow! $200 a month for donating - that's different! You don't get paid for donating in Canada ( unless you count the juice and donut after )

I donate platelets on a regular basis, and they take plasma at the same time. Usually takes about 90 min., I usually sleep through the entire thing.

You don't get paid in Australia or Japan either. Getting paid to donate sounds very odd.

Donate = Not getting paid.

Selling = Getting paid.

TQ, you'd be selling plasma. It's semantics, but I know you need the money to buy another fake ID, so I thought I'd help out.

BTW, if you are able to do this, by all means go for it. Plasma, platelets, and regular old pints o' blood are always in need. Good on ya for doing this.

I got an an appointment with a mobile vet on Tuesday. At least he says he is a vet, but the van says "Puppy Bubbles Mobile Grooming" Also, he plays drums in a ska band and says I should call him Doc Skins, even though the patch on his shirt says Alfred.

Since I was 20, I've donated gallons of whole blood, for free.

No, not all at once!

I didn't know you could get paid for this...but I'd still do it for free. Sometimes the anti-coagulant they use stings initially, but it goes away.

Stacey, in CA you have to wait three years after you have had cancer removed to donate blood again. I just finished my three year "probation" after surgery and am looking to donate again.

I have this mental picture of a rat with a needle for a tail stuck in Stacey's arm right now! Thanks!

Where is it that you can make $200/month for being a plasma ho? Was this a "make as much as" kind of deal that you heard of?
When I was in college, (it probably has changed since it's been a while,) the plasmaphoresis joint paid $13 per visit, or $30 week if you went twice a week. The only way to make more than that was if you had a rare plasma (ToRCH negative being the highest premium,) and you might get $60 a week for it.
Let me tell you about what a scam industry it is for the prices they offer, since I'm in the business of screening and purchasing human serums for diagnostic device manufacturing...
If you're over 200 pounds, they will take 880mL of plasma per visit, or 1760mL per week. You'll get paid $50 (let's assume it's $200/month, or $50/week) which works out to 11.36 cents per mL. They'll defibrinate and delipidate this material and end up with about 1400mL of useable material. (14.29 cents/mL useable material.) The plasmaphoresis center turns around and sells this material to businesses like mine, or to burn units (which use it to grow graft tissue,) at a price of $1.00/mL for commonplace plasmas like HCV+, and upwards of $10.00/mL for rare plasmas.) That's right. They're paying people $200/month for 5600mL of post process saleable materials which they can turn $56,000.00 on.
It's a worthy cause, since human plasma is used in disease diagnostics and burn patient graft treatments, but don't think that it's even close to a fair shake for the value of material you're selling.

You do realize that a minor rise in your numbers brings it up to $200 a month right? All i know is that i can make $50 a week...

I'm also told that they put this on a "debit card" so you don't get hard cash, i presume so drug addicts don't come in.

$30 x 4 = $120
$50 x 4 = $200

(200-120) / 120 = 67%

67% isn't a minor rise.

Drug users are screened out in the pre-processing. You give a finger-stick blood sample which is run through a series of tests: standardized drug panel, hemoglobin, iron, and white count ratio.
