Why did I say that?

Did you ever say something that you knew was going to get you in trouble but you just couldn't make your mouth stop?

I was working on some rather meticulous plans for some cabinets yesterday. My wife (SWMBO) kept talking at me. I kept having to stop and listen to her story, then go back to what I was doing. She could see that she was interrupting my work, but she just wouldn't stop.

"Oh, did I tell you Beth bought new draperies for her front bedroom?" she asked. The Devil got hold of my tongue and forced me to say, "And you're telling me this because..." You would think that, after 36 years, I would learn.

A wise man once said: "Dude...meticulous cabinet plans? Hit 'Pause' for a couple of minutes, listen to and converse with your wife, maintain peace and harmony in your marriage, then resume your work."

You probably wasted more time with the ensuing argument or other fallout.

+1 to the couch thing.

Me? I'm going to marry someone who doesn't get all sensitive about everything. Especially if I say... why are you telling me this?

Good luck. Everyone will have some sensitivity at some point. Something that would normally just pass will hit a nerve. It all depends on the situation. And then when you respond with "What are you so upset about?", it will shift into high gear. Good Times

Doh, we all know the correct answer is "Yes dear, you've told me twice already, this makes number three."

It makes us think you are really paying attention and not only listening, but retaining what we've said.

How is this your fault? None of it would have happened if she didn't feel it necessary to repeat completely worthless information to you while you were trying to concentrate on a job.

If that's the kind of irrational crap I will have to put up with if I get married, then I will happily stay single.

Next time, just throw the pencil down, scoop your wife up into a passionate embrace and make out for a few mins. Then get back to planning the cabinets.

I've done that before. I still do it. Sometimes you just don't want to be interrupted with nonsense, and that's your right. She should know that when you're busy, you're probably not that interested in her friend's drapes. However, you have to remember how interested you think she'll be next time you want to interrupt your wife and tell her about how your new titanium seatpost is 12 grams lighter than your last one . . .

Don't recall anyone saying it is his fault. That just goes without saying

But, you spend enough time around anyone, you will have irrational crap. And don't forget the irrarional crap YOU provide

Good point. I don't really have the heart to want to put anyone I care about through a relationship with me.

Everyman speaks without thinking and wishes he could take something back at one time or another. Just like we still make a misstep as we progress in the experience of walking.

I don't know everything. But I find that when women are chatty and revealing (wordwise) they feel they are in a safe place. She has things in her mind that cannot leave except through her mouth and into your ears. If the ears are closed, then her mouth is closed. If her mouth is closed then her mind is closed. If her mind is closed her heart will close. If her heart closes she ceases to be a woman.

Actually, I made a pretty good save, if I do say so myself. Before she could say anything I said, "Would you like for me to stop working on this and go do something with you? You know I'm not like you; I can't work and carry on a conversation at the same time."

She is eager for me to get those new cabinets built, so she decided to go to the grocery and leave me alone.

She's still angling for a rock and a fairytale wedding (whether you know it or not....)

Get those out of the way and then try to make those kind of statements.

Girlfriend does not equal fiancee does not equal wife.
