so, my boss got a blackberry...

so, now i get all sorts of short emails at all times of the day\night\weekend that look like this:

yes, it works...im on the bus Sent through Blackberry

If you were able to understand it, so should they Sent through Blackberry

Sorry that I am not more accomodating on this one, but I just do not see it possible Sent through Blackberry

NICE! Please put your OT Sent through Blackberry

Can you follow up on this? Sent through Blackberry

even though he's all the way across the country, it's still annoying as hell.

There is a reason they call those things 'Crackberries" My wife has one and she is constantly sending and receiving stuff on her "days off" and weekends. It is not uncommon for her to spend 20 or 30 minutes on that thing as we go out for dinner or drive to the lake. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!! I do not like intrusive technology.

I don't understand those who use them that way. I have a Blackberry. I almost NEVER send emails with it when I'm out....I rarely even check email even when I hear one *ding* that it came in.

Take your boss out for a beer. If he lays the crackberry on the table, "accidentally" spill a beer on it.
That should take care of it for a while.

In my job I am required to carry my cell phone EVERYWHERE I go and be on call 24 hours a day. It's my day off, my third one this week, and the third time this week I've had to come into work on my day off. Be lucky you are just getting messages and not wake up calls and him telling you to come to work.

Are you available for counseling? If so, what is your hourly rate?

You are the master of your domain.

Nuthin like sitting with a group of three people recently - I didn't have my phone - but two others had cells, the other had a blackberry. Together the three of them texted and e-mailed and ugh it didn't stop.

Crackberry addiction is a medical condition, now?

I guess it would be tough to drive with the thing permanently affixed to your hands...

Why do you think every employee at RIM (I'm very close to them) gets a free one?

They get you for 40 hours per week on site, and the remaining hours you work (and you do) you work for free without realizing it.

I know a middle manager there - when he gets in to work on Monday morning, there's no such thing as 'catching up'. He's expected to know exactly what went on over the weekend since he's been monitoring the emails.

Personally I'd turn the sucker off when I left work and only turn it on to make free phone calls out.

The mental part (addiction) is not. I did read somewhere that a lot of people are having problems with their hands due to overuse of the thumbs related to blackberries.

Start printing them out, and put your answers on them; when he/she sees how big the stack is, maybe the excess will dawn on them.

Unfortunately you are wrong.. I get bombarded by peoples cryptic blackberry messages while on their drive home. Actually the only time my bike commute has caused a problem is when they kept messaging and calling me with questions and I had to stay on a call for half an hour and they said ok are you home yet to logon?? Uh sorry no I'm sitting on a park bench I can't ride while I problem solve work issues.

yes, it's these damn type A people out there that are demanding to be kept in touch all the time. so, companies respond with products like this. then you "need" to have one, otherwise you risk being out of touch and not being able to keep up.

it's like doping in the peloton.

i wonder how many people out there get passed up on promotions because they're not as 'accessable' as a co-worker is.
