Slur-words on these forums: Are they OK? Yes? No? Maybe?

I'm very interested to hear what y'all think of the use of certain words in the context of BikeFo. Specifically, words that are defined in dictionaries as being derogatory toward certain groups.

Does context matter? (e.g., the slur is used to make a joke).

Does the poster's background matter? (e.g., the poster belongs to the group whose slur-term has been used).

These questions come out of a debate on another thread. I'd like to keep the discussion impersonal, though, so I'm raising it here, rather than there.

Thanks. ~

Well it's not cool to call people trannie or use trannie in a derogatory fashion, but if you've got a couple of trannie jokes, I'll listen... as long as you're a trannie too.

I might be offended if you called me a hybrid.

I would prefer to be named after a more efficient form of alternate fuel transport, if you don't mind.

Don't make me hit the mod button.

But what if I was calling you a component of strength? I mean...something strong that makes heavy things move? Like a car or something?

What?? Hybrids are cool. You can do a little bit of road and a little bit of dirt.

A car never! A rear diff or distributor cap, yes... but no trannies!

I don't give a flyin' fark. I'm responsible for my own feelings, and don't let others control that, either by their ignorance or by their intent. That's just how I roll, and, after what I've been through these last few years, it really suits me better now more than ever.

c0urt, that's a good general rule, BTW.

I don't mind. But somehow, "BioDiesel Dipper" just doesn't seem to flow.

Your "weasel"? Never heard it called that before, but whatever works for you. Just make sure you 'weasel' is caged away when Snowy gets there.
