Who here is an Alpha male or an Alpha female?

I have to admit, I am none of the above!!!!!

In real life I am pretty mellow, I think the term is sanguine, but who here is the.....

Alpha Male/Female that gets the butt sniffed and belly showed. Or are you the butt sniffer and belly shower, or do you roll over and let others take charge?

What are you?

I am alpha...but this butt sniffing thing...not sure. I don't treat people I respect like dogs, and in fact, I tend to hang out with other alphas. I prefer a solid debate or argument or discussion over puss footing to be honest. I had enough of that from some of my childhood friends who went the opposite direction.

I was mellow until my teenage years. Then I developed opinions and decided to act on those opinions. Depending on how or what the discussion or purpose is, will depend on how much I care to act or debate it.

I haven't the slightest idea whether I am or not. Probably means I'm not...

Interesting, Maelstrom. My upsilon comment was, of course, somewhat flippant -- I think it's fair to say that what happened to you in your teenage years happened to me when I moved to China. Better late than never .

I'm still not an alpha, but I'll upgrade myself from upsilon to epsilon.

To be honest, it wasn't a single event or year, when I turned 17, I started to come into my own. 3 years later, lots of lessons, and several family tragedies later I decided I didn't like what I was my younger years.

Cute, I had to look that one up ...thanks for the midnight lesson. (also took quite a bit as each seems to be a popular frat name haha)

Not only am I an Alpha, I'm Type A personality too. I'm not really a nice person to be around. I'd go away from myself, only thing is no one would put up with me.

Sounds like you had a tough time of it... sorry to hear that (though it seems you came out of it pretty well). In my case, it wasn't an overnight thing either -- just the gradual realisation that China is not a country in which being passive and quiet gets you anywhere... even less so than most places. I'm hardly super-aggressive now, but definitely more certain of my opinions and more decisive. Also angrier, when the situation calls for it

I tend to be one naturally. I often wish it didn't come out so strong, but it does.

I can even recall the day I became cognizant of the fact. I was in a technical writing class in college and our teacher split us up into teams of 5. I didn't know any of the other students, but we began talking slightly about what the teacher wanted us to do. Then the teacher said each group would need a team leader to do the talking for the team in front of the class. We had not discussed who would be the leader, but when the teacher came by and asked who the team leader was, all 4 of them pointed at me simultaneously.

alpha male and type A personality

nah but really it is odd, because on the one hand I am almost painfully shy and insecure, but on the other hand if there is a task or something that needs to be done I am almost always the one who ends up taking a leadership role or standing up in front of a group mostly because of one of two ideas

i get the idea
"if i dont who will"
or
"who better than me"

unfortunately according to my friends i am also this guy

The phrase comes from dog pack heirarchy, and what's amazing is that a lot of dog people mistake who is the alpha male and female. That's because there's what's called a "True Alpha". Really... they had to come up with a new name.

The True Alpha doesn't bother with sniffing butts when it doesn't matter. He/she is so confident that they have minion-dogs do that.

The True Alpha doesn't pick dog fights--it's so apparent to the other dogs that they're in slot #1. The fighting occurs with especially with dogs who want* to be alpha but aren't. They jockey around for power, trying to show everyone how tough they are. The True Alpha can shut the whole fight up with a mere look. Dogs people mistake* as alphas are the ones who are bullying every dog in sight, because they're insecure.

True Alpha dogs rarely bark at things. That's usually the job of the lowest ranked dogs in the pack, who get the 24/hour survellience job. They do a high little warning bark. If it's something serious, they'll give a lower bark, which may bring over the Alpha to check it out. If the Alpha barks, it's not a squirrel!

Did you know that in a pack of wolves, only the alpha female breeds? The other females don't even come into heat. They are there to serve as auntie dogs and to collect food. That's* the power of Alpha!

So if you see a group of dogs, cavorting, having fun. The one who gets along with everyone, and the one that the other dogs are very careful not to bump into is probably the alpha.

Yes! You're a "True Alpha". And the fact that you don't take pride in it is another Alpha characteristic. The Beta dog, well, the desire to be Alpha consumes him.
