What happened to Scrubs?

Has anybody else noticed how horrible the show has become? I've been a fan of that show since it started, and I'm willing to give it every benefit of the doubt, but something has been terribly off all season... Perhaps it's been going downhill for longer, but I seem to recall that as recently as last season it was still good, or at least it wasn't so bad that all I could think about was how bad it was. Episodes from this season seem... I don't know -- hollow, in some way. I don't know if it is bad writing, bad directing, or perhaps both.

Any other fans out there notice this too?

Just like very show, eventually it becomes hare to come up with new story lines.

But, if you're talking 6th Season (2006-2007), then I'm with you. It's not as good as once it was.

Once the interns/residents become attending docs, some of the innocence falls away from a hospital show. If you notice, there is a lot of stuff going on outside of the hospital, as if they have run out of good hospital plots. Then there are the 'musical' episodes. Ugh. That's a sign it's time to think about packing it up.

Plus, it's always easy to tell what season you're watching just by checking out how horrible Christa Miller's (Jordan) face has become with all the work she has done on it.

Seasons one through four are insanely good comedy. Season five has it's moments (including the My Way Home Wizard of Oz homage). Season six really started to slide. Hopefully they can pull it together with a good final season.

Just finished watching six last night. Not pleased with where it's going, and the writing does seem stale. Still, there have been a few great one liners, janitor moments, etc.

Feel the same way about the Simpsons these days.

Agreed. Luckly I read that they are not going to do a Ross and Rachel type thing with JD and Elliot. I think the start of season 7 will show where they are going. As far as the writing. I still love the show. Its my favorite comedy. I bet we find out the Janitors name in season 7 too.

Too little for faaar too long. This show, like most, should have been canned after 5 seasons tops.
Flogging a dead horse is far worse than giving it a respectful burial. In today's bloodbath for advertising $$$'s however, a proper time-to-go won't be observed until there is no sign of life whatsoever.

I thought the show changed directors at the start of last season. Is that right? Could account for the change.

Sitcoms use more than one director throughout a season/series. Usually it's the writing that suffers before the directing does.

Yea, I'm usually not a big fan of shows that go on and on and on... That's how I got duped into watching the first 6 episodes or so of 'Dawson's Creek' back in the day. I thought it was going to be a mini-series, probably ending with the main character getting with Katie Holme's character... after the 5th episode, I was thinking "Jeeze... they're really packin the plot points to tie up for one final episode. Perhaps it'll be a 5 hour finale". That's one of the reasons I was glad to hear that Lost has decided on a max 6 seasons (although, I heard they're going to be short seasons). Gives them the opportunity to actually finish everything up, instead of having the show canceled before they think about all that.

I always thought scrubs was a show that could potentially continue though, as there was no real continutity. There were certain themes or arcs for a given set of episodes, but nothing really driving the show as a unit. It sounds bad, but it turns everything over to the characters I think... and at one time I thought that was one of the show's strong points. I wasn't aware that there was only going to be one more season though... perhaps that's what's going on. Everybody knows the end is near and they've all given up. I don't think it's just the writers either; the acting hasn't been all that great, even by sitcom standards.

There were also those shows that started off bad. Dark Angel for instance. Or The War At Home.

I only wish they'd bring back the X files.

The X-Files was certainly not an exception to the "long lasting shows begin to suck" rule. And I loved The X-Files.

I loved the first two seasons of battlestar galactica. The last season was awful. Very disappointing.

Yeah, pretty much, but I still liked the last season. It sucked how they changed up the actors, and the story lines did take a ****. But I still enjoyed the last season. I don't watch much TV, but I did watch the X files weekly for most of the time it was on.

I have to say, ER is still good, although they've changed way too much with season 13.
House is about to crash and burn
Scrubs has been downhill since Season 5.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Dexter. I guess it starts Sept 30.

The other show I've been watching is Northern Exposure. Great show for the first three seasons, then the quality drops off significantly.

Its already taking a downturn with all the soap opera crap lately.
I would like to see it stick more to the medical side.

Then there's amazing shows like Arrested Development that were outstanding, but canned after 2 seasons.

Scrubs will milk as many seasons as possible for syndication dollars. It's possible that the players will rededicate themselves to good content, but most likely they will repeat tired jokes or retread storylines for at least another year, then kill it...so they sell another season to TBS, USA, TNT, WGN, et al. 'til the end of our days.

I like Scrubs. I hope it's good this year.
