iPhone price reduction funny

I clipped this from news article. Thought it was a litlle ironic.

"If they told me at the outset the iPhone would be $200 cheaper the next day, I would have thought about it for a second _ and still bought it," said Andrew Brin, a 47-year-old addiction therapist in Los Angeles. "It was $600 and that was the price I was willing to pay for it."

Well, I'm pretty happy that I get $100 back from Apple. I'm thinking of using it to but Leopard.

It was a matter of time before the price came down, but I'm surprised it came down so fast.

I think I read yesterday or the day before they think Jobs reduced the price cause, even though the first 500-600k flew off the shelf, sales of Iphones have slowed big time and he wants to reach 1 million by the end of the quarter. Which isn't a surprise, I think it was jsut too expensive for the average, practical person to consider.

Yeah, people need to quit their whining. They paid a premium because they wanted them first, and that's what they got. They knew a price drop was inevitable, I guess they just didn't expect it this soon or this big.

On the other hand, I don't know if I agree with companies trying to maximize their profits like that. Sure, it makes perfect sense from a business standpoint, but... actually, no. That's fine. They can price stuff however they want. Whatever the market will support. Heck, why didn't they offer preorders or something for $1500? People would have done it.

I just choose to be an intelligent consumer and wait for the prices to come down.

I figured I'd wait until next year, when the bugs, if any, are worked out. Plus, I would expect to get a much more powerful version for the same price.

The iPhone has software updates which usually are free to download. I don't think they'll release a significant physical update for awhile...

Why are people so suprised that the price dropped for a phone? It always happens like that. Like it was said earlier you paid for being the 'first" to have them.

But now Jobs is apologizing and giving everyone that bought it first $100 back to keep the Applephiles happy.

Now I'm waiting for all the people that waited overnight for a PS3 to write Sony for a refund and apology since they dropped the prices.

Then again, I guess I'm different... I don't feel it necessary to wait in line for hours to throw away my money on a fad. I'd much rather wait until the bugs are out and the price comes down. But that's just me...

Totally off the subject, but didn't Charlie the tuna play a piano in one of the old Chicken of the sea commercials.

To stay slightly on topic - Don't need an I-phone, already have a working cell phone that I got for free and I have my Zune to play music/movies.

Well, with the release of the iPod touch or whatever they call it, you can get everything you like about the iPhone, without having to get the phone/at&t. Yeh, it stinks if you already took the plunge.

I hear what you're saying here, but in developing world people don't have a phone and a computer, they just have a phone and they need more functions on it. So something like the iphone is inevitable and companies that are developing this kind of thing are right on the money. This technology is eventually going to proliferate far beyond the few gadget heads that are buying iphones this fall.

That said, I would never ever pay $500 or $600 for an iphone. Various features are locked out, you have a choice of AT&T or AT&T, and it operates with a bunch of proprietary software/hardware that you're stuck with (mods void the warranty). In short, it's an apple.

My friend has been using a phone that he brought back from korea. It has a lot of the same features of the iphone and he paid 1/2 the price.

Hell, soon you'll be able to get the openmoko for around $300. Instead of waiting for hackers to develop mods for your iphone, you'll have a whole community developing your phone's OS and apps.

If people are willing to pay that much for it, so be it. If they like to be first in line to get a product, whether they're an addiction therapist or not, I don't care.

Yeah, I'd be peeved if Apple dropped the price days after I bought something, but not too peeved. If I bought it, that's the price it was worth to me. If anything, they should be more than thankful that Apple is offering that rebate, as it's money that consumer didn't have at that point.

See the problem is that everyone thinks Apple is a great deal, people on an Apple centered forum I was on were ranting at anyone complaining about the $600 price tag, saying that it takes money to market, distribute, research, etc. And that Apple was a good deal for what you get, the "new" technologies, their "quality", and the like. People who flock to Apple products have some kind of mental issue, so an illogical outlash like this isn't a surprise to me.

Now they're proven wrong by Apple themselves, boo hoo. Welcome to what Apple really is, a business, not a charity.

I still wouldn't pay $400 for the iPhone.

Thank god there are people like the person interviewed. Companies and "forward" thinkers like them will help drop the price of surface and other devices which, in there price range, are virtually unreachable by the average person.

Kudos to them and there need to have a big ****.
