Had my first friend die last night

I'm 24 and haven't had to deal with anyone I know well dieing. Last night my friend did. We used to go out to the train yard and play on the trains and jump from one train to the other. He jumped, lost his footing and grabbed onto a power line. He got electricuted for 2 minutes before the breaker went and then fell to the ground dead.

I think I'm going to try to drink him back to life, like in "Snatch".

I'm sorry for your loss. I never had to deal with a close friend's death until my favorite cousin died in an accident four years ago. The resulting hole in your life never goes away, but life does go on.

Losing friends are one of the hardest things to deal with. Drinking to dull it will only give you a bigger headache in the morning but most of us have tried that avenue - I won't tell you not to. If there's a counselor at school please make an appointment and have a conversation. The more you can talk and have help dealing the better.

I lost four friends when I was in high school - all four to train accidents (two not quite their fault and two self inflicted). I probably didn't deal with it the best way then though I did the best I could with the tools at hand. Knowing what I know now...I would have had a few sit downs with the counselor to help sort out what I was going through. They have a lot of tools that can help.

Good luck, we're here if you need to unload - so sorry

Sorry to hear this happened. Hopefully someone will be able to take away a lesson from this about risky behavior, and a future tragedy can be avoided.

What?? It happened last night, and you saw it happen? And you're back on BF this morning posting about it?

Is it in the papers?

One of my nephews died a couple weeks ago. He got into a disagreement with someone and was stabbed to death. He was 21. Anyone can die at any time.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Life lost when young is truly tragic. I lost a good friend in high school. He was young, strong and had the world in his eyes. He was racing (muscle cars hot rod days) late on night and lost control hit a barrier.

Losing someone can really screw you up, particularly since being there had to be an absolutely traumatic experience. Stewing in your own juices will make you feel much worse, so this is a good time to spend time with your other friends who knew him. My deepest sympathies.

A guy got electrocuted while jumping from a train? You saw it happen? That's horrible, you must really be in shock. This must have been in the papers, right? Seems like it would have made national news. What city was this in?

He doesn't say so explicitly, but he combines past and present tenses, and implies a very detailed personal knowledge of the details of the incident (e.g. the fact it lasted 2 minutes).

"Last night my friend did. We used to go out to the train yard and play on the trains and jump from one train to the other. He jumped, lost his footing and grabbed onto a power line. . . He got electricuted for 2 minutes before the breaker went and then fell . . . "

It's unclear what happened, especially with the mixed tenses, but it sounds extremely tragic and highly unusual, so I am sure it was shocking, and maybe he was able to post about it the next morning before the shock fully set in. Since he is probably upset and understandably unavailable now to respond, I figure it must be in the papers somewhere.

I'm not worried about that, per se.
I just think it's an unusual post/ progression:

My friend died in a particularly horrid way- (as a result of ridiculous behavior)
I'll get drunk like a movie I saw-
Now lets talk monkey wrenches.
