Man, I don't find any computer stuff. Did find a trailer and a rack for my bike though. The rack was in the middle of an intersection too.

Not bad!

They auction off old computers at my lab, and I picked up 3 machines for $5/ea last week. P-4 1.8GHz, 384MB RAM, 40GB HDD, DVD, 3.5", cheapo kbrd, mouse, and old 15" CRT. I'm using one for a music server at my apartment, and the other two got stripped and combined to make a housewarming gift for a friend whose old machine died.
This week, I'm hoping to pick up a few P-3 866MHz laptops for around the same price.

I can beat that, i found an old Pentium 3 computer with like 500mb of ram in the trash. All that was needed to be done was windows reinstalled and a blade on the power supply fan to be glued back on. My friend still uses it today.

Well I got mine from my parents

I would like to learn Linux, though, so I can take Steve Jobs' hand out of my pocket (even though I don't spend much on computer stuff)

Awesome!
That's how I got my HP LJ4+ printer. All it needed was toner.

I threw out a PIII with xubuntu installed this summer. I couldn't afford to move it. Hope it found a nice home.

All these low power computers would do great with Linux installed compared to Microsuck windows.

Viking: You threw out a PIII? You could have posted it on CL. Man, I would have loved to have it. It would have made a nice web server.

You can probably pick one up for $50. I just didn't have room for it in my van so I left it on the curb.

There was a security convention I went to that had a competition to see who could make the most secure network. One group setup all these security measures with firewall\rules preventing intrusion. Very impressive page upon page of security measures for microsoft based systems.

The other group used linux.

Guess which one was most secure?

Just upgraded my PC to AMD X2 6000+, 4GB RAM, 8600GTS, 750GB SATA II, 21" widescreen LCD. $250AUD. I think that wins. Gotta love disgruntled ex wives, she said she didnt want it and I could have it for 250.

That is quite impressive and funny to hear. Question is how good does this computer run?.
