YAY For Good Genes!!!

I went to the dentist today. It was my first visit in a LONG time. I mean LOOOONG. I haven't been since I was about 9-11 years old.

Soo....it turns out my teeth are very healthy! One small fissure in my number 1 tooth that he is going to take care of very quickly next week and then he just suggested coming in and getting my teeth cleaned once a year!

I even have enough room for my wisdom teeth!

Thanks Mom!

I do, and I'm sure that my vigilant toothbrushing has something to do with it, but my mom also has very healthy teeth. The dentist said that some people are just more prone to tooth decay than others.

Thanks Siu!

Good job Shadiyah! My dentist told me the same thing after like 12 years between visits. He was rubbing his hands and salivating at the thought of all the costly dental work I was bound to need and was amazed that all I needed was a filling for a cavity that was too small to fill 12 years earlier. I thank fluoridated water.

Ok...thanks Dad!

I'm not really sure if he gave me the good teeth genes, though.

I can thank them both for my green eyes! Both have the recessive gene, but I was the only kid enough the family lucky enough to get them!

Awesome! I'm sure the fluoride probably helped me as well.

Fissure? That translates to crack in my head. Wait, that didn't come out right. There's no crack in my head, chemical or physical. But the word... I mean... Uhm...

I'm not familiar with dental terms...that's what he called it. He said it would take three minutes to fill in.

I've got bad teeth from minimally 2 grandparents. But since Siu taught me to brush 5 times a day, no more cavities. I've had like 12 though, so much dental work awaits me in the future.

That is great! I never kept up with my teeth until i got older. After my first visit to the dentist to get some fillings i would brush my teeth well. Then i haven't been to the dentist in about 6 years and when i finally went i just needed one of my fillings redone and that was it

Aren't you in your mid twenties? And you haven't been to a dentist since you were 11 or 12 years old? That's a long time to go without seeing a dentist.

It means you have a hole in your tooth that is natural, not caused by decay, just that your enamel formed funny on that tooth. Had one for thirty years before Pop got around to filling it in.

Oh, and get your teeth cleaned biannually not annually. Makes the cleanings easier, less buildup, better for your gums, and any potential problems can be noticed twice as quickly.

Well, if you know you take good care of your teeth, they look healthy and you have no pain or other issues, why would you see a dentist?

Wow, count your blessings

I have always taken care of my teeth.
Never had a big problem with cavities.
But as I have gotten older, I have found that my teeth are brittle, I have broken a couple, and the enamel is about gone. With all the root canals and caps, I am certain that i have paid for a couple of my dentists' vacations.

I mentioned this to my mother, and she said: "Oh, sounds like you got my teeth"

Thanks, Mom

And entirely commendable - if you can pull it off.

It is a long time, I agree! In fact, that is one of the reasons why I have been so apprehensive about seeing one. I was afraid of what they'd tell me. I was also terrified of dentists for some reason, probably because of my last visit when I was very young? I dunno. But hey, I'm not scared anymore, I have great teeth (I'm also really lucky in that they came in straight w/out braces) and no cavities!

I do kind of wonder why my parents never took me when I was a teenager. That is kind of weird. But then again, we were very poor at that time and I can see how the cost would have put a strain on my mom. (Another reason why I haven't been - afraid of the cost). I suppose she made up for it by passing on her healthy teeth to me!

Thanks for the clarification, Allen. Is your dad a dentist?

I think I will go in twice a year now.
