Where's my raise???

So I am talking to one of the mangers yesterday about the company. I learn that even though NH is a "fire at will" state, we have a policy which we follow:

Everybody gets a 60 day probation period. You can be fired for any reason in that 60 days for any reason at all. No explanation needed. After that 60 days, the employee has the right to challenge it.
AND after that 60 day period, one gets a raise. Well I have been working here since June 14, 2007. It's well past 60 days...
I want my raise, and I think it should be retroactive. This is a small company, and I interact with the president on a daily basis. Should I speak to him about this? Or speak to my new boss?

Do you have a Human Resources contact? If so, I'd begin there. If not, start with your new boss. If you don't get any satisfaction, then go up the ladder. You don't want to step on the new bosses toes, as he/she may be offended if you go over his/her head. This can be a long-term problem, so try to avoid it.

Good luck, and let the group know how it turns out!

All you need to form a union is fifty percent of the employees plus one more. And don't forget those who are on disability. They count as well. If you forget them, you don't meet your fifty percent. You can go through a petition or what is called "union interest" cards. If a company meets the requirement then it automatically can be considered Union....

Oh.....there I go again.....

nevermind.

Didn't you complain about not starting at the pay they originally promised? Maybe that was the probation pay...

See if you can get the raise in waffles. Delicious waffles.

And don't be a wimp, hold out for the square kind

Belgium waffles are overrated.

Where's the policy? Is it in writing, or is it just a rumor?

Its funny, I was actually looking for a booooo picture, but the thumbs down is what came up...bumma.

Bac had the right idea, try and handle it yourself, likely a clerical error or a really crappy payroll department.

hahaha...thats a good point. We have policies here as well...they aren't written anywhere but associates assume the "policy" will apply to them even though it likely won't. Performance based wage increases are usually the standard (at least in places I work) before any raise wouldn't be possible you would need to get reviewed and told why or why not you aren't working hard enough to get a raise.

Seniority and/or time based increases are crap and breed lazy useless workers.

Was there any discussion of higher salary when you started? Was there any discussion of the probationary period at all? If not, what makes you think you should get a raise? Most people are lucky to get one every YEAR.
