How much for a haircut?

Just back from getting a long overdue cut.

For years I used to shave my own head after giving up on the local cutters, then I found a decent guy.

While I can be cheap about a lot of things, 55 doesn't seem thatbad a price.

You?

I don't think I've ever paid more than $15-20, tip included.

Then again, I haven't had one at all in going on a year now...

I've long since given up trying to look attractive. I now cut my hair w/ a $20 beard trimmer. It doesn't look great, but it doesn't look horrible. And I can go through the routine in about 15 minutes.

Bonus is that I don't have to force myself through awkward small talk with someone for 10 minutes.

I try to avoid haircuts for as long as possible.
I have seen what I look like with no hair, thanks to the Navy. I'm not doing that again.

I spent $35 on a new pair of clippers back in college, probably 15 years ago. Aside from my monthly razor fund of about $5, and a $4 can of shaving cream (so let's round it up to $10/month to keep my dome shiny smooth) there's no barber costs.

It's not about the price but about the timing. I figured it made no difference what i paid if I cut down the visits to the barber to a bi-annual schedule. Been working out great for years.

I'm three times a year. About $25 a visit, but I get the conditioner and the mousse too. Plus, my stylist gives a great scalp massage while washing.

Back at home the barber shop i typically go to is run by 3 people, so i feel a tip is justified...mostly because i don't know who takes home the bread, i think it's the old guy with gray hair, but it could be the old guy with brown hair. Hmm...

But now in Iowa City i found a guy who sits in his shop all day and cuts hair every once and a while, it's him and only him, i tip him out of habit and some likely social norms that force me to act

I like the guy and everything but every time i tip him i walk away wondering what the hell the point is.

my place, Ray's Barber Shop charges $14 for a mans clipper cut. This is a real barber shop with bad coffee and stale donuts and a poster on the wall, circa 1950, where you point to the style you want. Then the barber, who has been ignoring you, cuts it however he wants to anyway, and calls it the "businessman's cut."

Can you get a straight razor shave? It's only a real barbershop if you can get a straightrazor shave.

I really do not like straight razors, gay razors, any kind of razor really. The sight of a straight razor makes me want to run off to British Columbia and become a lumberjack.

About $100 bucks for a decent set of clippers on ebay a couple of years ago. Haircuts now only cost me 5 minutes.

My barber, we'll call him Steve cuz that's his name, charges me $10 for the head and $2 for the beard. He throws in trimming the bushes in my ears. I always give him $15.

I wouldn't let anyone chop off my magnificent lumberjack beard, but a good straight-razor head shave is beyond comparison.

I don't have enough hair to justify paying someone else to cut it.
I bought a cheap reachargeable kit several years ago, and have not been to a barber shop since.
