    She Doped?

So Marion Jones doped. What a .. shocker. She took "The Clear."

Another comment on a radio show today from a sports writer who says: guys aren't supposed to be 6'4", 240-250 pounds and run a 4.3 40.

I'm 6'3", while I'm fit, I have never been into competitive sports. I'm not sure I agree or disagree with his stance, but it is an interesting view.

    That is all.

I knew a guy in high school who was that size and could move that fast. I'm certain weren't doping at the time, or ever. Just a really twitchy hockey player that took up track and field to stay fit during the warm times.

Same with a friend of mine who went from being a high school linebacker to an MVP in college rugby. Just a gifted athlete.

I had to look up who she is (apologies if the link specifies such things, but I don't click on TinyURL links as a rule.), but it's getting really hard to take any professional sports/athletes seriously anymore. What arrogant, overpaid arsehole sports "stars" begun (and I don't refer specifically to Ms. Jones here), drug abuse finished by wiping away the last tattered shreds of fun left in these games.

That's what they are. Games. Games are supposed to be fun. What's wrong with these people?

Being the best at something isn't fun for you?

You have to take steroids and drugs and what not to even compete with everybody else let alone beat them.
Life is about hanging onto what you think is important and finding out what really is important.

Are you really the best if you only got there with the help of drugs?

That sounds like what somebody who has never been there and instead chose the "i stayed at a holiday inn" approach, but you didn't even stay at a holiday inn did you. You were going to go to a La Quinta and then you chickened out and stayed home.

The only thing Steroids and other performance enhancing drugs do is level the playing field.

Well, this certainly takes some pressure off the poor pros in the peloton. But like Bonds she claims her coach told it was, what, uh flaxseed oil?

    Code of honor.
That's the story they came up with and for the most part it works. You can't really punch a hole in it and if you recorded them saying it they would have it thrown out of court, mis trailed and a new jury that couldnt hear that .

Well fine. If you want to take drugs to play a game, go right on ahead. Just don't expect me to be impressed by any of your achievements anymore.

When I played baseball, we played for fun. Winning was really fun. So, we played to win.

Yeah, but did you go into the opposing team's digout and beat the hell out of their star slugger? That could have let you win, after all!

    Does Flaxseed work?

I take them religiously. I figured if Bonds did it, you know, like .. just maybe.

At the level these jocks and jocquettes are at, it is not a game, but a business. And using every advantage even banned ones seems worth the risk I guess. IMO, they only sully the sport they pretend to represent.

I have yet to hear an argument against money being the root of all evil.

Remove the huge contracts and endorsements and do folks still dope?

And they push it to the absolute limits of human possibility.

This can, and is, often done without drugs. But still, is the fact that a person did something absolutely phenomenal, with a little help from drugs, completely diluted?

Yes they do! There is a lot of doping going on in the amatuer ranks of cycling. Steriod use in high school football is rampant as well. And there is no money to made at those levels.

Competition brings out the worst in us sometimes, no matter what level it is on.

^^^^My daughter is an athletic trainer. She has complained about this to me on numerous occaisions. Steroids are bad enough, but to take them while the body is still growing can have life long consequences.

Not if it's the drugs that made the accomplishment possible.
