Who said midwesterners can't climb?

Check out the roofline of the house behind aprilm! I wish I could go climbing with April more often. April, Vivian (the bike in the pic) is available to you whenever you want to go riding together. You rock!

Well, that's all I'll say about that. Don't want to steal any more thunder from the ride report I assume she'll get around to posting.

BTW Jason, for future reference. Women that ride horses have really strong legs and glutes. Shouldn't be a surprise that she can climb on a bike. FYI.

I'm glad her pits are free. I'd like to smell that woman's Midwestern sweat.

I mean, in a totally non-creepy wholesome way.

Some people can't do anything in a non-creepy, wholesome way. I would have thought you, of all people, would have come to terms with this.

I have.

Sir, say what you will about April, and perhaps I would reluctantly agree. But you must not, can not, say that she is "some people" without expecting that I would challenge your assertion.

Now, if you will excuse me, I must prepare my Sunday School lesson.

Love it so much I might steal it and take it home. Considering that I'm shopping for a new bike, it was NOT a good idea for Jason to put me on it. I loved it!

Never, never try out really high end bikes "just for the hell of it". When I was looking to buy my Surly, the pair of Orbea Orcas (one Ultegra, one Chorus) in the shop were calling out to me. There was no way I was going to give those hussies the time of day, though. Ditto for the vintage lugged steel Olmo (in my size!) frame built up with Record components that was hanging in the shop. Very very dangerous...

Woah... this thread is but a few hours old, yet this attachment is my most viewed attachment ever on BikeForums!

April, if you want to steal Vivian, that's fine. But then you have to move out here. Vivian likes it out here. Honestly, I think it's an excellent idea to put you on that bike. It gives you a chance to extensively ride a bike set up for your fit calculations and to get a good feel for what to look for in the bikes you shop. I'm confident you'll find something you like in your price range.

It wasn't just for the hell of it. April needed a bike and Vivian needed a better looking rider who can climb well, and so the two of them were perfect for each other. A free rental bike sure beats renting a Soloist Team from Nytro. And besides, a Nytro rental bike wouldn't include bright white bar tape. Speaking of which, I was really impressed... Vivian had new bar tape today, and it still looked completely clean after the ride. My bar tape never stays that clean after even one ride. April is so gentle with Vivian that I'm afraid Vivian might run away.

Oh, you'll get a good bike out of it for sure. I mean more along the lines of test riding a bike that is way more expensive than you'd planned to spend, but could conceivably afford...

I'm not normally a fan of carbon fiber bikes, but those Orcas were gorgeous. (And wow, I just looked up the R3. I didn't realize it was about in the same price range as the Orca. )

I need to go see this street. How do you get there from Marymount College at the top of the switchbacks?

Dammit, quit giving me all these temptations. The sound of the ocean is convincing enough.

Oh, and I don't care about the sleeveless jersey/arm warmers combination. I was comfy.

Go back down PV East a little bit, and turn right onto Ganado. (First and only side street, I think.) Roll down the slight incline to the bottom of the massive initial steep section. It's two long blocks of pretty constant grade. This pic was taken when I was standing on the side street in the middle of that section.

Once you get up there, it levels off a bit, even going slightly downhill for an all too brief moment, then it gets even steeper, but thankfully not for very long. Then there's another respite, if you can call high single digit grades a respite. And then the steepest section comes last through a few sweeping turns where if you take an inside line through the turns, it hurts a lot. The top of Ganado dumps you onto Crest.
