What was the worst investment you ever made?

Mine was Nortel. I watched it collapse from over $100 per share down to $30. Steal right? That's when I decided to buy. Little did I know the tech bubble was still inflated. If you don't take into account the reverse split 1:10 they recently did, the stock is now worth approx $1.60

I bought a 23" Apple Cinema HD Display a while back. The computer I bought it for croaked a few weeks later. Zing!

As for the stock market, wouldn't touch it with a 42-foot pie pole.

I was married. Does that count?

Oh, and SHE lost $15,000 on the stock market in 6 months - without my knowledge. Was one of 100 things that contributed to our eventual separation.

Yahoo.

The stock went up by a factor of like 10.

So what's the problem?

I didn't sell.

A pump'n'dump OTC stock with ticker BBAN. Got a hot tip when it was at $4. Didn't act until it was at $8. Me and my coworkers sunk thousands. It quickly plummeted to a penny stock and the perpetrator fled the country. This was around year 2000 not surprisingly.

yikes...

with that said, probably the 2 1/2 years of college that i got nothing for. However I also believe it has helped me get the last two jobs ive applied for, mostly the math/science/engineering skills. I start a new job monday, after 2 months of being unemployed and lazy.

so i guess my ex girlfriend was the worst investment. I didnt even really buy her anything LOL (current gf I bought a bike for this summer). She was definitely a waste of over a year of on and off...what can ya do?

Financially most of my old cars

I'd buy or rescue an interesting old car, spend up to lots of money on it just to get it going/keep it going, then sell it for a similar amount that I paid for it.

Still I've had lots of fun, and learned (more or less) how to do basic mechanical work.

The only cars that I have made money were; a 1960s Bedford campervan that got rear ended and I got over double what I paid in insurance proceeds and selling the van, and a very poorly hand painted Nissan Sunny that I paid $280 for, drove for 1200km, and then sold for $300.00.

Old cars can be very deep money pits, but, when they are working, are quite fun.

About 9-10 years ago, I bought a full darkroom kit. Cost the equivalent of US$1200 at the time. I'm not sure, but I think the total number of prints I've made using it is something like 200...
And now, with digital having taken over completely, it's not worth anything...

My road bike, just don't ride it that much. Really wish I would have gotten a cyclocross bike instead. Oh well.
