baseball fans...checkidy check dis

Ok, so with the NLCS in the bag and the ALCS about to be i got to thinking. The league got upset because the All Star game had no purpose, so they give the winner home field in the World Series. I was pondering the idea of inter-league play.

I think its bull**** that the two teams in the WS essentially have nothing to do with who gets home field advantage. So...ready? Why can't they just compare the record of those teams that each team has played during inter-league play. This would put some purpose into an otherwise meaningless practice (at least outside of NYC and Chicago).

Thoughts?

How about they just get rid of inter-league play all-together until the World Series. Also, no more designated hitters. What a stupid rule.

Didn't really answer the question, as for the DH...it adds a different element of strategy to the game, and enables a lot of batters to have a use. I'm all for it, but also like how my Cubs have to play the game

The whole purpose of the change, though, was to make the All-Star game have some meaning. There was such an uproar over the tie game a few years back that Commissioner's office decided it had to have some effect somewhere or else be a total irrelevancy. I do understand your problem with the fact that the teams participating in the WS have little (I won't say nothing, but little) to do with who has homefield. In addition, there are players in the All-Star game who have to know by the break that their teams have little or no chance of playing for the championship, so they have limited incentive to bust ass in what for them is merely a scrimmage.

Still, the current system is meant to cure one problem, but created another in doing so. Your system would cure that problem, but create the original one anew.

It fixed the problem of simply alternating the WS home field every year. It's not perfect, makes perfect sense to just give home field to the team with the best record.

Not when you look at years like this, when the AL is so much better than the NL.

but anyway, i don't care about the All-Star game. even if it determines home-field advantage for the Series.

sure, i watch it.

but it's only slightly less pointless in the overall season than the freaking home run derby.

as for various methods of determining home-field advantage for postseason play: whatever method is used, somebody isn't going to be happy. so who cares?

They seed the league playoffs by record, giving homefield to the teams with better records (except the wildcard, which is always lowest seed), so why not extend that to the World Series?

Your idea, though, tq, has some merit.

That's how they use to do it, but again...it's not always a fair comparison as the level of play between the two leagues can vary so much.

This year is kind of a bad example...if Boston pulls this off for example, they had 96 wins. Colorado had 90. I respect Bostons 96 wins a hell of a lot more then CO's 90...it's more then just 6 games.

No, it's not. They used to alternate each year which league had home field advantage before the current All Star Game method.

Also, they used to do a whole series with either DH or no DH. Then they switched it to the current way so that when the game was in an AL park there is a DH, but when it was in an NL park the pitcher bats.

I wish the DH rule would die a quick and painful death.

Just flip a friggin' coin between managers before the series to decide who is home and away.

end the DH, playing in domes, night games, and playing on artificial turf.

Canada should not have any teams in MLB either.
