The cast is off!

1 week and 2 days later after my surgery, the cast is off and I can type with both hands again!

There's this hideous scar and the guy removed half my stitches, the other half comes off next week. I'll have to wear a removeable wrist splint for the next 2-3 weeks while this ******* heals...

Not yet... no gloving for a month...
I don't think I'll be able to ride for like, another 2 months. And even then, I won't be able to seriously ride for like, 4-5 months, which is right around when the season starts. Won't be able to lift weights until like, mid summer.

What are you going to do with the cast?

I'll start the bidding at $0.25

If you're like me, you can sit on a trainer without putting much weight on both hands. Hopefully, you can get some trainer riding and weight work-outs with your legs in over the winter.

Glad that's off, and hope you heal quickly!

It only went up to the middle of my forearm, so I guess it looks kinda fat.

Couple of friends, coworkers, and a political activist signed it.

Did the incision go from your wrist to your palm too? How long did it take before you could use your hand normally again? And until you regained full strength again? I'm assuming I won't be doing any pushups or pullups for 4-5 months...

Oh, I think the doctor thought it would be funny to draw all over the stitches.

Aside from almost puking when he tore out the stitches, pretty good.

I bet it feels great to have it off. I had a cast on for 3 months up to my shoulder. Now i have a nice 6inch scar down my forearm and another 2inch one down the side of my wrist.

I remember stitches being pulled, not as nasty as the doctor using regular pliers to pull the pins out of your wrist. Not only does it hurt like a mother****** but it also looks nasty.

I would ask for a Hand Therapy consult. Depending on who your surgeon works with, that would either be an Occupational Therapist or a Physical Therapist. It will be important that they get started with some range of motion in your hand/fingers as well as teach you how to keep the scaring from getting too stiff and limiting your function. If neccessary, they will also work on some stregthening and fine motor (coordination) exercises. Ask your surgeon. When do you go back?

Next wednesday, he was pretty busy today so he didn't say much to me. I heard that I should keep the wound moisturized so it doesn't get too stiff.

Isn't that the same active ingredient in chapstick?

Dunno. All I know is I've got this scar behind my ear from the tip of the helix down to the end of the lobe, and it really helped. I have other surgery scars from the pre-Mederma era, so I have some basis of comparison.
