Grey cup today ... anyone here know what that is?

Any Canadians (or Americans) out there watching the grey cup today? I'm a displaced Saskatchewan guy who's a bit pissed that I couldn't pick up tickets even though they're playing less than an hours drive from my home. Guess I should have planned that one a bit better.

Anyone want to make a prediction? Mine is Saskatchewan 24 - Winnipeg 15.

The last time Saskatchewan won in 1989 I was living in Saskatoon. The town went nuts after the win with people partying in the streets, honking their horns, it was great! I would love to be watching the game in a bar somewhere in S'toon. Oh well, my TV will have to do.

Free Pizza, you'll have to check out the game in a sports bar in Regina. Take pics and post. I'm homesick! Have a Great Western on me (do they still brew that brand?).

pffft.....

There is no way Riders will beat the Bombers this afternoon. 24-21 Bombers ( but only 'cause I have a ticket with that score), with Westwood kicking a last second field goal to win.

Seriously, if the Bombers don't win at least it will be the Riders instead of BC, Edmonton or (shudder) Toronto.

I hear ya. I thought with Sask & Winnipeg playing in the Grey Cup I'd be able to pick up a couple of tickets. However they've been sold out for a while. I have a feeling that 2/3 of the crowd are people who flew up from Sask & Manitoba or they're displaced like me ... just a bit smarter and quicker

No its a place for retired and/or b-rated players to come and still be called pros. (ok ok, the 5 or 6 that made it to the nfl were actually good)

That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it? I mean you'd never see an NFL lineman compete in the CFL because they are too big and slow and just get sped past.

The NFL is a crapshoot. It's got as much to do with luck as it does talent. Brett Favre will never take a game off for an injury, because he is paranoid that a backup will start, have a great game, and there goes his career.

different rules, different fields, different focus means different styles of players.

I like the CFL rules better. Makes for a more entertaining game IMO. Hardly ever watch it though. It aren't on the cable here unless I spend more $$$$$.

I don't believe it is a stretch.

I always find the argument that the nfl is a big and slow sport cute. Yes NFL is more smashmouth and cfl is more opened up. That means the nfl players (imo) need to more skilled, especially on offence. Tighter field, less "outside" running room, linebackers that are both faster and will take your head off. Cfl players are smaller and NOT faster. I have never believed that argument. I believe the players in cfl should be (and are) happy to have a home to play somewhere, because they are generally speaking, second rate players. (let that be by skill, retirement or whatever). Heck if you could find an honest player, who in their right mind would choose to play for the cfl, if they could play in the big game.

Heck, you can almost cite examples of some of the horrible "good" defences in the cfl. I remember watching a game a few weeks ago and the tackling was borderline highschool. The mistakes made in the open field alone are prime examples of their skill levels.

No need to get into it, I have debated this point for 15 years since I stopped playing football. You have to look no further than the lineups. Who is actually playing in the cfl? The players who weren't big enough, strong enough and fast enough to play in the nfl. (flutie is a prime example of someone who sucked balls in the nfl, but his game suited the cfl where hits are infrequent and the field is so freaking big you could drive a mac truck back and forth across the field and not get hit)

Some of the rules are cool, some aren't. Nothing gets my rocks off like a full speed linebacker destroying the running back who is trying to run around the corner of the line but runs out of field, that rarely happens in the cfl. If the cfl had a normal sized field, I would be interested to see how the game turns out. (I could say the same for nfl, some rules I dislike, some I don't. every league has crappy rules haha)

If you did want to watch it you could buy one of the newish television phones ...they broadcast on public internet television so you can watch it on your phones now.

all of that said, I would have loved to have seen pinball play in the nfl in his prime, that guy could move. I think he would have done well with a good offensive line to help him punch holes in the defence.

Thats actually a sign of great depth imo. All you imply there is, the second line in the cfl is so bad, the first line guys can take 7 games off and know they still have a spot left because the backup is below average.

Heck don't knock favre, he might be in the cfl in a couple of years

Update for all those Canadians that never watch the CFL. It's a very exciting game as you can tell from the score.

Score 0-0 9:38 left in the 1st

Huh, turns out the first US-based CFL team was formed near here. It later moved to Texas, where it ended up becoming the last remaining US-based CFL team before it folded, dooming CFL USA to failure.
