Whew.

I haven't been around Foo much lately, though I have been doing a bit of lurking here and there when I've had the chance.

On Sunday November 18, I posted the following:

A little bit too correct, as it turned out.

Monday I quit my job. Wednesday, I found out a friend of mine would be leaving the country soon (a common thing around here, but still not too much fun).

On Thursday, November 22, I wrote:

On Saturday, I learned my grandmother had passed away peacefully, aged 101, on Friday, November 23.

On Sunday, I was on a plane back to Canada, where the family gathered to prepare for my grandmother's funeral on Wednesday.

Friday morning, I was back on a plane, arriving in China Saturday night.

Monday, I signed the contract for my new job, to start in January, and on Tuesday I bought tickets to visit my parents for Christmas -- the first time I've had Christmas off since 2003.

I think I'll make it a quiet Friday night. But it's nice to be back in Foo .

Thanks, guys. I think my grandmother had more or less decided she'd been around long enough, and while we obviously weren't thrilled, the funeral was not at all depressing. Also, you should have seen my aunt sprinting back to the car after the graveside service... it was about -20C/-4F outside

So sorry - but it sounds like the pieces fell in the right places for the right time.

Sorry about your G-Ma. Are you going to sleep for a week in January to rest up from all this craziness?

My heartfelt condolences on your grandmother's death, gbcb.

Wow. That's a lot of travelin' in such a short time. I wish you a relaxing holiday, and a safe return to work in January.

Thanks again. You're right, Air, in that things worked out in a strange way. And while Christmas will involve even more travelling, I think it will be very relaxing -- my family usually takes a pretty low-key approach to the holiday. Best wishes for all of yours (even KT ).

Oh, and with all the confusion, I never got to congratulate / offer condolences to Siu, x, and Viking on their new modships. or as you prefer!
