Harley

Well, I always said I'd never get a dog until I get a house. I almost made it (moving into the house in a couple of weeks).

My sister found this little guy on the side of the road. They put up flyers and she went around asking if anyone in the neighborhood is missing a dog - no one claimed him. So she asked me if I wanted him. I figured since I was getting a house...

He's going to be freakin' huge. I'd say at least 80 pounds. He's only 2 months old and he was already dragging my moms minature poodle around by its ear. (they were playing).

Here's a couple of pics. Gee, he's not photogenic much is he?

I suspect the boxer, with the pit bull, on the back 40!

Seriously, ravenmore, if I already had my dog lot built behind my house, I'd take him in.

Lol - thanks guys and gals! I talked to my sis tonight and she told me that the vet thought he was at least part Mastif - yikes. Those guys are really huge. He is a huge baby though. He really want to be a lap dog but he's already pushing the envelope there.

was thinking the same thing.

Note to Ravenmore: keep him disciplined, never let him forget that you're the alpha dog, nip any aggressive tendencies in the bud, and enjy the hell out of each other.

Help control the pet population. Have your pet spade or neutered. -- B. Barker

Get a big fence so Harley doesn't get out and rip the face off the neighbor's toddler.

Cool dog. The Bad to the Bone collar looks appropriate.

Siu - I'm not sure if I've seen your puppy but I can't imagine that he's ugly.

I also can't imagine this dog being agressive. He's such a weenie right now. I'll be sure to keep an eye on that though. He's going to be around people and other animals a lot though so he'll be well socialized. So far he's very friendly. He seems to like to make "friends" - going up to everyone he meets to be loved on. I'm not sure that he has any pit bull in him, but even if he did I've been around a lot of pit bulls and every single one was very sweet. I know the reputation of the breed and believe that being cautious is always prudent especially since they are powerful animals, but I've just never seen one behave badly in person.

Oh, and he'll be neutered as soon as is possible. I suspect you want to let him finish growing though first?

The recommended age to neuter is 4-6 months. I worked at a vet clinic for two years... I can't remember what the risk is if you wait to neuter a male, but with females, the chance of getting endometriosis later in life increases the longer you wait to spay (I thought there was something similar to that in males, but I can't remember what it is now). He might get bigger if you neuter earlier, too.

Dogs who lose the effects of their sex hormones too early end up with an altered metabolism, which generally gives them a tendency towards weight gain.
