Anybody not feel Christmas-y?

This happens to me every year, I see a TV show series and the theme of the week's episode if Christmas and it gets me down. This will be the 6th and last year in a row that I will be spending the holidays a few thousand miles away from my friends and family and it always gets me down. Just wondered if anyone else was in my situation and wanted to join in my misery.

Look at about half the threads I've started or bumped in the last week or two. YES, I feel the same way.

Go find and join my "I Hate Christmas Club" thread.

You know what, I take that back. I can't join your "I Hate Christmas" thread. It's just that this time of year gets me down because I'm so far from home. I can't wait until next year when I should be home, have my own condo or house, be able to go see my family for the holidays and finally enjoy what I have been missing out on.

Then there is my "christmas sucks" thread....and if not more threads, then very anti-Christmassy replies in tons of other pro-christmas threads.

I don't think I've felt "Christmas-y" since I was about 12 years old.

However, I'm not going to commiserate w/ you --- sorry about that.

The recent ice storm has ripped a lot of my lights from my house, destroyed trees, and completely flattened my inflatable Frosty. But we shall prevail.

Glad to hear someone on this board hasn't given up on this holiday. Actually I'm quite certain that people aren't putting in enough effort to avoid the commercialism that businesses force down our throats. If people just focus on the family and friends aspect then they will be able to re-define the holiday. It's all a matter of mind. For me it's a week off of work and a great time to visit friends (my family is also too far away. Next year I'll be there for sure ... with my downhill skis in my hands ). Oh, and did I mention that I love the smell of pine in the house? Yeah baby!

On the 25th I'm going to sing Jesus happy birthday but I refuse to sing jingle bells at all this year. That is my way of celebrating without giving into the commercialization.

Religious scholars estimate Jesus was born in early Sept. Christians stole Dec 25 from the Pagans. Watch the news and see how Christmas sales at the mall is the barometer for how well this Christmas season is performing. Screw Christmas its not even real. BTW Christmas is important to the Church only because its the biggest money-maker of the year. Easter is 2nd. Christmas sucks and we all know it once we look at the math and see through the hyperbole. Thanksgiving is a better family holiday.

Watch TV commercials and see BMW telling you to buy significant other a new car. Have you seen an add for chia pet on TV? Its all about selling crap we don`t need. Screw Christmas its a BS holiday. Its just that nobody feels safe saying it because they feel like their confronting God to think otherwise.

Peace

I like the lights people put on their houses. And I softened it up with a smiley.

I didn`t go into the part about Romans ripping out huge portions of the bible during their rein and the fact that we are left with a convoluted and diminished version of the bible today that leaves out a whole lot of what really happened.

As a child ,Christmas started out as a lie with the fat jolly man in the red suit coming down the chimney with presents. That is the first huge lie that every child is BSed with. To me Christmas doesn`t feel like the real deal, sorry. I wish I didn`t feel bitter about it but it really is the one Huge Holiday completley made from pure bullshlt.

Presidents day is the other BS advertising holiday but at least the ads only last 3 days and its only about appliances and mattresses anyways.

Please read my posts and prove me wrong. I don`t want to be a buzz killer but if I have stated something that is not fact please show me the light.

This will be the third Christmas in a row that I've spent 100% alone in my house, giving presents to my dog. My girlfriend will be out in California with her parents, so she won't even be around. I don't know, I understand where the OP is coming from. I even had to force myself to put up my Christmas tree this year, but I'm glad I did. Sucks to be lonely on Christmas, but that's just the way it is sometimes.

i'm trying to feel Christmas-y.

but my GF dumped me in September, and i'm still not over that. or even just accepting of it, emotionally.

it's going to be 83 freaking degrees here today - i'm wearing shorts and might go to the beach later.

i have a miniature foil tree. it doesn't smell like anything, much less Christmas.

i've not done my shopping, but that's o.k. - i don't have any money! sure, the economy's fine, right?

so yeah, i'm definitely not in a Christmas mood.

but i'm trying!

As soon as I get my bonus this Friday . Zing!

Actually having my kids around and shopping with the wife and doing things like that there has helped me. I'm also an active member of our church and sing. So I have to sing this coming Sunday and it will definately be all kinds of Christmasiness.
