Ask her out and you'll find out rather quickly!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained

I think she's playing games with you. That is what girls do. They are evil. Pull her hair and throw mud on her.

Wait! No hair pulling and mud throwing until at least the third date!

No red rose! Go with a daisy!

Yeah. Great idea. Stalker.

I once found a single rose in the seat of my Jeep. (no doors, no roof, so it was easy to put it there.) I never found out who put it there.

You DO NOT give a girl you have never dated a rose. None , especially just one. If you do she will think you are just creepy.

As others have suggested, simply ask her out. To lunch, to dinner, to coffee, to get a snack, but make it some place where you can have a conversation (i.e. not a movie or concert). Talk, and not all about yourself, and see if there is any compatibility. If there is compatibility, then and only then, do you even consider giving flowers.

This may be a generational thing, you are prob a couple generations behind me. For me, it's a great way to get the preliminaries out of the way for about a buck.

Have you ever tried it?

Looks like with this generation one needs to write a detailed manual on how to give a flower.

1) Buy the damn rose

2) walk up to the girl and look her in the eye.

3) Say 'I'd like you to have this'. But given your previous statement 'here' might be a better idea.

It's been awhile since i was in college either, but suffice it to say...if i had ANY girl on my floor in my dorm room, the flirting part was long over with.

Alrighty...

I was pondering the point at which hair pulling becomes acceptable and enjoying all the romanticisms and now I find myself wondering how I am gonna wipe that last image from my brain.

There is only one cure...

I would love to get one single red rose.

As to the OP, maybe she is just calling it how she sees it?

No follow-up to, 'I'd like you to have this'?

I picture the girl looking a bit confused, responding with "ooookkaayyyy". Turning away, rolling here eyes, returning to her room and describing to her roommate what had just taken place. They both exhale deeply, tremble just a bit and then the rose hits the trash can.

Would in not be easier and more direct to:

1) Walk up to the girl
2) Look her in the eye
3) Say, "(enter her name here), I was going to (enter establishment name here) to get (pick one - lunch, a snack, coffee, dinner), would you like to join me?

This part is very simple if she says "yes", then there is an interest, if she says "no", then there is no interest. In either event you do not come away looking like a creepy guy who gives single roses to random girls.

Be sure to wear an "I'm with stupid" shirt on the first date. Chicks dig that.

Pull bra strap, then try to kiss her. Saves talking to her.

It depends on the girl. Hopefully you have had some conversations with the chick first. I haven't dated in a long time but a few girls were into that romance aspect of dating and liked the rose, so I go it. Some thought of dating as speed interviews...it really depends on the people involved.

Calling you "anti-social" was code for "prove me wrong by asking me out". You missed your chance.

Ask her out for coffee or lunch, if it goes well, then give her the rose the next time you see her.

give her a dozen roses and a diamond ring. then show her all the pictures of her on your wall that you have taken of her without her knowing. she'll love it!

come to think of it, that never worked for me either. and restraining orders are a *****.
