Blu Ray: $500...$400...$300

So I buy a Blu Ray player (Samsung BD 1400P) in November at Circuit City for $500. Can't get it to work with my old TV. I return it for a refund. Then 3 weeks later I decide to buy a new TV, and now I want the player again. I buy it from Circuit City again. Now it's down to $400. Then my new player malfunctions, so last night I return it to exchange it for another. Now it's down to $300 and Circuit City credits me the price differential to my credit card. In fact some online retailers are selling this unit for $270 now.

That's amazing. A 40% reduction in price on a hot new tech product at the height of Xmas Shopping Season. At this rate they'll be giving them away by next Xmas. By the way, Blu Ray discs are amazing. Like taking cinema quality and shrinking it to your 40-60" home screen, so it actually looks considerably better than the movies.

There's a report in gizmodo that the new combi blu/hd players are out and are cheap too. Probably CC being savvy retailers and trying to dump stock they know will become worthless.

so quit buying the samsung. panasonic is the highest rated player i've found.

you do know you can get five free blu-ray movies for buying certain blu-ray players, right?

i looked at combo hd/blu-ray players. you can buy both of 'em separately for cheaper than you can get a combo

Holiday sales on these players are not what the mfgs want. A lot of write ups on how Joe six pack is not going to pull the plug until a HD format is decided. No one wants to get stuck with an obsolete $400 player. So either the prices have to come down to around $200 or a format has to be a winner for this sector to take off.

BTW - Sony has three different players from $300 to $1,300. Why anyone would buy a $1,300 Blu-Ray player is beyond me.

A combo player would be great but they are selling for about $1k right now, way to steep for most people including me.

Incorrect. All my defunct schwag goes to Piermont Bicycle Connection. He sells it on eBay, I get store credit. People will buy ANYTHING on eBay.

on a product that didnt work right for more than a week because it's cheaply made in another country out of substandard garbage parts with cheap labor by people who dont care. I'm suprised it hasnt dropped below a hundred dollars already.

They need smart people like you in the Bush Administration. Hurry, there's still time left. And to be fair, that first Samsung worked right for at least two weeks. Never overstate your case.

I have a Flintstones TV. A small dinosaur bird inside chips images into a stone tablet. Picture quality is not that good. Not blu ray compatible.

I dumped DirecTV recently. In five years, they went from being a great company to deal with to the absolute worst experience I ever had. I'm saving about $80 per month now with the local cable company. Picture quality is better. Fewer HD channels, but I think we can muddle through with 'only' 42 of those.
