Who else here loves S&M?

I know it is a little old school now but last night I sat down and started pulling up video's from Metallica's S&M concert with the San Francisco Orchrastra from back in 1999 on Youtube. While I am not a heavy metal fan I find this concert is just so musical. For you music fans who have not seen any of the footage, do yourself a favor and give it a look.

S&M was OK. A lot of it was muddled and the Orchestra was simply trying to keep up it seems. Check out Apocalyptica for some really good classical musicians playing heavy-metal.

Wow......Thanks for the info Danno. I am playing a cut of there's now. Quutamo.
As for S&M.....I did not hear the irregularities that you did but I was simply listening to it for enjoyment....not really studying it.
Very Cool

Here's some of my favorites. Just makes a Metallica fan cry, it's so beautiful!

Nothing Else Matters
The Unforgiven
Master of Puppets
Fight Fire with Fire

Amazing what skilled musicians can do with classical instruments!

This is not old school, maybe middle school. Old school would have been circa 1989 during the Justice tour. That era with the orchestra I would have paid good money to see.

Hmm, I should wear my Metal up your ass shirt to the Van Halen show on Saturday.

I saw Metallica in 1992. They played for over four hours without taking a break. It was impressive.

But honestly I really can't stand the black album or anything they've done after that.

My musical taste is SOOOO wide I can usually like just about anything. My favorite Concert DVD right now is The Last Waltz from The Band and AC/DC live at Donnington. My CD collection goes from Johnny Cash to Kid Rock to Steely Dan. Then I also have lots of Metallica and Jimmy Buffett..........

Also the Trans-Siberian Orchestra stuff has some interesting heavy-metal additions to classical holiday pieces...

TSO - Wizards in Winter
TSO - A Mad Russian's Christmas
TSO - Christmas Eve Sarajevo

I did not discover Metallica until I heard No Leaf Clover on the radio back in the late 90's. I had no idea who it was and I googled the lyrics that I could remember for hours till I found out who it was. I have been a fan ever since. Prior to No Leaf Clover I always THOUGHT of Metallica as a strictly standard no talent heavy metal band.

Funny, this album just came up on randomize a little while ago. Listening to Outlaw Torn right now. That said...

...this is pretty much how I feel about it as well. The orchestra almost always seems overpowered by the band. It seems like it could have been mixed better, or something. I really like the concept, but it doesn't quite work as well as I'd think it would.

I had Apocalyptica's first album way back when (don't know what happened to it. I'm sure it's around somewhere), and didn't care much for it, either. Maybe there were some songs that worked better than others, but it seemed to move into "trying too hard" territory when they tried to emulate the vocals (in a way) with the cellos. I may have to dig that album up and give it another listen. I just seem to remember it being a bit too gimmicky, but it's been a while.
