What to do with "old" cell phones?

We upgraded our phones yesterday and now I have two perfectly good cell phones, Motorola V276 (Verizon) (purchased August 2006), with chargers, manuals, new battery in one phone, and a charger for the car.

What do I do with them? Is there some organization that accepts cell phone donations?

Ron! How you been doing?

I think Starbucks used to have a place where you could drop off old cell phones. They donated them to charity I think....been a while since I've been in one though. Might be worth checking out.

Keep them. I don't carry rip off cell phone insurance on my phones. In the even that mine gets lost or stolen i go to the old phone bin, grab an old one and activate it. I'm right back in business. You can also ebay them. Whatever you do, don't give them to your cell phone company.

Mine has a place you can drop your old ones at the retail store. Guess what they do with the old ones. Yep. They sell them.

Thanks.
If you've been reading my posts you know that I'm no longer with the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign. Dennis (the former director) and I butted heads too many times and the last time (Feb 2007) was "the LAST TIME". I've been working at Intown Bicycles since March 1.

You still bike commuting?

Check with your local women's shelter. They can be used for 911 even if not activated. A company I used to work for (national co.) used to collect them for a charity to distribute to shelters.

Beat me to it! I was just going to say check your phone book or do a search on women's shelters. Some stores here even have drop boxes. The only thing bad about dropping them off is you don't get receipts for dinanting those $1,000 phones for the IRS

BWAHAHAH - My turn - who's got the soft paper towels and windex for the screen (not to mention a getting a very nice doctor for my young cat who flipped over backwards, landed on a stack of CD's, scrambled them around and skidded out the door.

Perhaps I shall see him tomorrow. Or some day. Poor traumatized kitty ...

But for now, paper towels please?

This what we do, they give them to abused women to use if trouble happens.

I have some very old ones which used to work on AT&T's old TDMA network (before they went to GSM), and the service the phones require is getting shut off for good come February. Meh. :/

At least with GSM phones, if you trash one, you swap SIM cards (if the card is recoverable), into a new phone, then off you go. Its even nicer if you can unlock the cheapie Tracfone handsets sold for $15 or so.

It's one of those things, I knew what it was, heard about it, but it didn't cross my "mental radar" enough that I easily brain farted on it.
