What is this world coming to?

I am following this story about the 24 yr old woman who was hiking in Georgia and is now missing. They think she is dead and that this Gary Michael Hilton was probably the one who did it. This world at times disgusts me! This girl went out to enjoy one of her god given amazing days on this planet and some guy takes it upon himself to ruin/end her life to make his day better! I'm just sick over this. Now i'm not a religious person but I do believe there is a high power and I hope that he has a plan for people like this man because it is absolutely sickening.

Do you think it just might have been her time? Wether walking in the woods or crossing a city street, quite possible the results would be the same.

Not condoming this persons actions at all. Those kind of people need to be drug by the nuts until dead.

I don't buy that it was her time....this guy decided it was her time. Had she slipped and hit her head on a rock then it would've been her time. This guy could've decided not to hurt her. Oh well, I guess it is a philosophical argument that isn't worth bothering with. I just don't understand how anyone can think they should take someone else's life.

i had a great epiphany last night, for the first time in my life. and that is the world is f*cked up. like seriously. politics, democracy, what our for-founders predicted, media, ect. take the few minutes to think about all of it, and you might just throw up. power hungry people, and people that deserve more than the average amount of attention should not be allowed in the gene pool

Yes, this is a very disturbing story...especially since its seems to be right down the road from where I live.
They found her dog wandering in a super market not more than 15 miles north of where I live, and they found this guy at a car wash not 10 miles south of where I live. He was cleaning his van out. I think they have found some of her personal items in a dumpster somewhere as well.
What makes people want to do this kind of thing to other people, I'll never understand.

Whenever we think we are so great, as a human race, it seems we forget the fact that we are animals with some of us being the predator and others being the prey.

While many try to evolve past our base instincts, we shouldn't pretend that all of us are so evolved.

I wish peace for her family and loved ones, not to mention the family and loved ones of the killer.

Why does everyone start getting referred to with their middle name the minute they become a murder suspect? Is it to try an punish his parents in case good old dad gave him his name?

Maybe to minimize confusion with people that have the same first & last name? I don't know.

I know. Sadly as you get older, you're going to get more of those great epiphanies.

how about that other horrible story recently...baby grace? This poor child was found floating in a box...her stupid, white trash loser parents beat her to death and threw her out like she was trash.

The kid stories are really the worst. I don't have kids, but i cannot imagine anyone doing that to a kid. To anyone really who is helpless...

i don't believe in gods or higher powers. There are only people, and frequently people do horrible things.

No tolerance is the answer. First time you abduct someone and it's proven, bag over your head, up against the wall, firing squad, the gene pool improves.

I was readin' about this in today's paper, Chris. I have avoided such things over the past year, as I couldn't stand more negativity in my life, but I did seek this out. At least they very likely have the right man in federal custody, base on unnamed-as-yet evidence. Unfortunately, it's all about finding a body now.

I am not a religious person, but spiritual. And "unnatural" death just hurts me like hell. No wonder it's been so hard for me to recover emotionally. Fortunately, there is good to be seen among the acts of humans, and so I do ever-so-slowly progress toward healing.

It's a saying we have around here to point out that people who have done wrong will eventually suffer the consequences.

Exsqueeze me?

I hate to say this, but I've basically stopped watching the Philly 11 o''clock news. It seems like every night's lead off story was of one or more murders.

I asked a friend of mine who had through-hiked the Appalachian Trail about the biggest surprise or hardest adjustment was to finishing the hike and coming back to "society". He said that he also couldn't watch the news any more, and this was years before the Philly murder rate was as bad as it is now.

"Esqueeze me", I like that. I haven't heard that since my BIL died a long time ago thanks to a drunk driver.

Though I fail to see the relevance.

KT posted about a man who killed, cooked and ate his girlfriend.

I guess the one thing to keep in mind is that these events are news because they are relatively rare. Not rare enough, but rare nonetheless.

"If it bleeds, it leads." Long time the motto of the MSM. People die every day. People die violently every day. People do kind & good things every day too.

Guess which gets the lead at 11?

Very true - which is why I don't bother watching the news. Some day my number will come up too - maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe 50 years from now. How I die is not really important, I suspect I won't care that much - but how I live does matter to me and I won't live in fear.
