Hmmmmm...sometimes bike manufacturers are liars

Why is this?

A few examples...

On ebay, some bike shop had a brand new, assembled-right-out-of-the-box, Eastern Shovelhead '08. It is supposed to come with the medusa lite chainwheel, it had the regular old medusa.

I saw a picture a guy had of his new bike (Eastern Sequence '08). It was supposed to have medusa lite chainwheel, Eastern Raptor Cranks, and Eastern pedals. The picture he took showed that the bike had the old medusa chainwheel, a non-Eastern crank, and non-Eastern Pedals.

I want to buy a Sequence ('08) and I'm afraid that I'll order it from the internet, and it will come like the other guy's. I want the bike with the parts Eastern says it has! What should I think/do?

I noticed that with my Trek. It was suppose to come with something and it didn't. When I questioned it, the dealer called Trek and they pointed out that in the catalog in small print, it says that components may change throughout the year depending upon availability.

So it's legit. Or at least my Trek was. *shrugs*

Fine print 'eh? That explains a lot. Darn those bike companies.

Call the company before you order and tell them what you saw and what you want. Tell them to put it in writing that you will get your desired part.

But just in case, see if you can pull up the catalog. Look at the bottom of the pages in fine print or at the back where they list the components on each bike.
