FOO Doctor Needed...............

For the past few weeks it has felt like I have fluid in my right ear. I have tried de-waxing; one pharmacist suggested a decongestant, another suggested an anti-histamine but nothing works.

It is driving me nuts. I have gone so far as to sleep on my right side in hopes any fluid would drain out but that hasn't worked either.

I should have asked the doctor when he called me the other night with lab results from my physical, ( yes I have a doctor who calls his patients), but I forgot.

I am able to tilt my head in certain positions which makes it clear up for a second but I can't walk around doubled over.

Any home remedies would be greatly appreciated.

Thought of that but then both my brain cells would leak out, and then what would my posts read like?

Assuming the dewaxing was completed correctly, it can be difficult, my suggestion would be a decongestant. I get this a lot. It always turns out to be one or the other.

Another trick, and I use it every couple months for the same problem...tilt your head sideways and pour a cap full of rubbing alcohol into the ear. Let it soak down in there, then tilt the other way to let it drain. This will displace water based fluids and allow them to flush out.

I got swimmer's ear a lot as a kid and the doc told me to do this. Haven't had the problem since.

Sounds like an infection I had a while ago. Had bronchitis or the like lately?

I say leeches. Sounds like a good blood letting is in order here, according to my home medicine journal. it was written by Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber.

Since its effecting his ears, I'd look at a sinus infection before I looked at bronchitis. The sinus are connected to the ears via the eustachean tube, and can easily cause the symptoms he has described.

More than likely. Only asked because bronchitis did it to me.

umm...does the patient have a rectal/cranial inversion? If so, those may just be the correct Rx Dr. Jsharr, sir.

I have often been told I have my head up my butt, but I don't think that is the case this time, and I haven't had bronchitis or anything else that I know of.

As I said earlier I have tried a decongestant.....even a double dose. No help.

So it's safe to pour alcohol into the ear canal?

You might just have a wax build up or plug that de-waxing isn't going to touch.

If that's the case, it can be lavaged with a saline solution, just make an appointment with a nurse.

v1k1ng1001,

Thanks but I had a physical last week and the doctor did check my ears and didn't mention anything, and naturally it wasn't bothering me then.

Sooooo, is it safe to put rubbing alcohol in the ear canal?

Rubbing alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide and luke warm water mix is what we use when I worked at a clinic some years ago. I forgot the ratios, though.

Folks,

Thanks for all the advice. Sorry I couldn't find any leeches locally, but I did try.

Right now I'm off to try rubbing alcohol.

ERrr. WD-40 would do the same then, huh? Water Displacement

Anyway, I get that every once in a while and I use this:

An ear syringe (bulb)

Some people use it to wash the ear out but I don't use it that way. After a shower if my ears have water, I just squeeze it a few times in my ear empty. The air displaces the water off of the ear drum.

neti pot

I have been suffering from very much the same thing for a week and the neti pot has been a godsend or actually, a donnambsend, as she was the one who "encouraged" me to get one.
