Outlook...

Srry enterprise ldap environment with fully integrated sharepoint, calendars, com server etc. Nothing is better once you start tossing in the "extras"...

At least that I have tried.

For home, (aka pop etc) I like thunderbird...its good.

I also use OWA (Outlook Web Access) here. If using Internet Explorer, the OWA that comes with Exchange 2007 is very nice. Got full SSL (not many Web mail providers provide SSL for much other than maybe the initial login if that), calenders, syncing with my cellphone, contact lists, S/MIME, etc.

At home, I used to use Thunderbird, but apparently, new development on it pretty much has ceased (from what I read), so I moved back to Outlook. I check mail at home using Mailwasher Pro as a "pre-reader" because it doesn't render HTML, and doesn't allow spam messages to show graphics or use Web bugs, then I fire up Outlook after that to store the messages.

What sucks is that with all the companies offering Web mail clients, standard mail clients are either biting the dust or are not being maintained at all, other than Outlook. Webmail is great if I'm at college, but when I get home, I like physically downloading and putting the E-mail in a relatively safe archive folder which gets snapshots taken often, and backed up to another machine daily.

I use thunderbird - clean, simple and no, I don't want to live inside my email. It has filters to move things into different folders automatically and junk mail filters that seem to work well. There is a calendar add on as well.

It does what I need - and I really REALLY dislike bloatware.

I suck...

OWA then...outlook online You would need to have a domain name etc.

For the generic accounts, I don't mind hotmails interface but it is badly bloated.

I really don't like webmail. Gmail is okay, I guess, but the inability to make folders (at least the last time I tried, maybe they've finally added it) is frustrating and confusing.

I use Thunderbird more often than anything, but email itself has been made almost completely useless by spam and the like, so I rarely use email at all anymore. It's a shame.

A word about server based e-mail - If you are running a Mac and get Microsoft Office 2008, it doesn't work with the exchange servers here at MSU. Check with your campus I.T. before you install/upgrade from '04.
