My "go to" song is Billy Idol - Rebel Yell.

A good finisher is Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down.

Inbetween I'll throw in some Billy Joel, or some contemporary rock if they got it.

I'll start off with "When you believe" Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston

I can think of more... I do karaoke quite often.

I'd like to see you sing "Hips don't lie" by Shakira
<ducking the full arm swing slap that's coming after saying that>

I wish I can sing that. I love Shakira but sometimes she sounds like a goat.

Back in 1978 (long before Americans had ever heard of the concept of karaoke) I used to routinely lip-sync the "Sweet Transvestite" number from The Rocky Horror Picture Show at theater cast parties. Apparently I was pretty good at it.

But if I had to get up at a real karaoke bar nowadays and not completely embarass myself and/or my friends, I'd probably pick "Pretty In Pink" by Psychedelic Furs ...Richard Butler's is the only voice I can reliably do with any consistency.

Although if I could find a karaoke machine with Charles Ives' "They Are There" I'd jump at the chance to sing that!

About 10 years ago -- for inexplicable reasons, I might add -- we took a vacation to a Poconos resort hotel. And I use the term "resort" in the loosest sense, western Pennsylvania being about as antithetical to the concepts of Oppulence and Luxury usually associated with that term as possible.

In short, we were in the middle of the woods with a bunch of toothless potato farmers, albeit toothless tater farmers with enough disposable income to get away for a weekend to a hotel that had premium cable TV and a whirlpool in every bathtub.

In the hotel lounge they had a karaoke DJ during happy hour. My wife discovers they've got the whole Chorus Line songbook and so, after a couple glasses of wine, gets up and does a full on Broadway belt version of "Dance 10, Looks 3" (aka, "Tits & Ass") complete with original choreography.

...for a bar full of toothless potato farmers!

It was priceless.

(edit: sorry, I meant eastern Pennsylvania)

What i have discovered about myself from singing Karaoke is that i have a great voice for singing country music. The irony here is i hate country music with every fiber of my being. Since karaoke is about having fun, I would not hessitate to belt out any of Conway Twitty's greatest hits, but with a satirical lilt for sure.
