Winter blues ... tell me the cure!

It's 41 degrees, sunny but windy here at the beautiful Jersey Shore.
My cycling this winter has been limited to turning the wheels on my bikes as I walk by them in my house and spin classes that only have me dreaming of actually riding again.
Always a project at my new (old) house and it's very interesting pub has no shortage of beer drinking friends but, it seems but I'm missing that free wheeling energy that comes with gearing up and clipping in.

And for those that say I could or should be out there riding, I agree. But I'm not.
It's an OPC thing, I can't seem to find cold weather gear that looks HOT with my bike...
Yeah I know, the commuters do it daily, I have no excuse.

What is everyone else doing this winter?
Is it just me or do you feel antsy come March?
Any suggestions on where to escape to? I feel like running away this week!

Oh boo hoo, I can't find pretty riding gear for cold weather. Please. I got news for you...41 degress is not cold weather. How long have you lived at the jersey shore and you can't ride below 65 degrees?! Or is it you're afraid to get a little sand or salt residue on your precious machine?

WHO IS THIS LOSER?
is he messing with me?
Does he know who he's sparring with? Someone please tell him!
(Kirke... the girl he could only DREAM about???!! )

Insensitive clod is the understatement... this guy is clueless.

Hey dude, crawl back into the P&R forum where you belong so you can bash someone for their political views too. Or maybe you could post about how numb your male anatomy gets in the cold because it's too small to pump enough blood to keep it warm!

This post is being brought to you by the letter "H".

You already have the answer.

And for those that say I could or should be out there riding, I agree. But I'm not.
It's an OPC thing, I can't seem to find cold weather gear that looks HOT with my bike...
Yeah I know, the commuters do it daily, I have no excuse.

We had a high of 48 F yesterday... I rode.

When it was -46, I still rode.

You have no excuse and here's a news flash... commuters are HOT with a capital H.

H is also the first letter in "HTFU".

Go ride your bike.

I hope not, that avatar kind of looks like a linebacker with a blonde wig on.

I find the notion of 41 being too cold to be rather amusing, that's when the riding is just starting to get good.

Now of you want a harsh ride just go here and read: http://arcticglass.blogspot.com/

Snotsicles will be the least of your worries there.

If the linebacker in a wig thinks 41 is cold, she can't possibly be a NJ native... probably came from one of those thin-blooded states like texas or florida.

Here's one easy trip: 3 hours and you're right outside DC with some nice MUPs in Arlington, VA. It will be 65 degrees there tomorrow!

It is cold somewhere in the world? Couldn't tell it here - been just a tad warm lately. The high has been about 82, which is a little uncomfortable, but hey, to have perfect mornings and evenings, you have to make sacrifices I always say. Besides - when it gets a little warm, well the cure is a hammock in a tropical breeze with a frozen fruit smoothie.

So, what is this Winter Blues you are talking about?

I've seen a bike that had all kinds of sand in the bb and the headset. And everywhere else.

If you want a real answer to a cure for the winter blues then take some cod liver oil/halibut liver oil. Its rich in vit D which is the "sunshine" vitamin.

Absolutely. Even my endocrinologist (who is a very mainstream allopathic physician) believes most people who live in the northern latitudes suffer from vitamin D deficiency to varying degrees. At the very least, most people should ask their doctor to have the bloodwork done. It's very interesting that vitamin D deficiency and seasonal affective disorder share many of the same symptoms - including depression and irritability. Between my vitamin D prescription, my cod liver oil supplement, and my winter riding, my lifetime tendency towards the "winter blues" has virtually disappeared.

As for riding in the winter - since cycling is inherently sexy, we really don't need to concern ourselves with HOT clothes. Just get on the bike.
