Paypal claims, buyer's perspectives.

I being the cheapass that I some times am thought that I had found a great deal on a camera, I knew that camera was good but I didn't do any research on the company. Well after receiving the camera and being disappointed with the promised "upgraded" lenses and the fact that the LCD had some pixels out. I called and got the required RMA number and shipped the whole package back the next day. I used ups with a tracking number and made sure J and K Cameras got the camera back. It had been delivered and signed for and I had verbal conformation over the phone. That was the last I heard from them, they haven't contacted me and I havent been able to reach them.

I called them today to find out that they are closed even though the recorded message that is played states that the are open till 7 EST (wtf). I started to get a little more worried. A google search came up with this. http://www.resellerratings.com/store...rice_Cameras_6 Well sh it. Now I am really worried. I filed a paypal disputed but that only "opens lines of communication" Well I havent been able to communicate with them to begin with so I called PayPal (I didn't go though ebay which was my fault) and was advised to go ahead and escalated the dispute to a claim. The person I talked to escalated it for me and took down the tracking number I had. She told me that they are now looking in to it and there is nothing I need to do now.

Sorry for the long assed post, I guess I am still kind of freaking out. Has anybody been though this kind of thing? What are my chances? What can I expect?

I've been on the other side of eBay/PayPal. It took them over five months to resolve charges fraudulently made to my eBay account, freezing both accounts and denying me access to my own money for the entire time. Don't look to me for encouragement.

Did you use a credit card through PayPal? If yes, contact the credit card company and they will take your side in a heartbeat, at least they did with me. They will immediately stop payment to PayPal.

If it came from an account or balance, I have no direct experience but I have heard PayPal will work, they may be slow though. I wouldn't worry too much, your should get your money back.

Worldbiker, OT but how is the Tommasini coming along? On topic: I have been on the other side too and they both suck. Alot.

iab, I didn't pay with a credit card. My bank account is tied to paypal so I can have a sellers account. I had about 75 percent already in my paypal account from a bike sale. I think now I will only be using CCs for paypal.

OT: The Tommassini is still sitting in my living room. I haven't come up with the entirely fair amount that Tommassini wants to refinish the frame, but unfortunately, that money will likely have to come through selling some other items online...receiving the money through PayPal (OK, so maybe there was a tie-in there) which I am a bit gunshy about after the ordeal. In the meantime I'm fixing up my '93 Trek 2300 and thinking about stripping the frame like I originally wanted to do with the Tommassini...hopefully less people will scream about that bike.

I almost ordered my camera stuff thorugh JK Cameras...luckily, I checked resellerratings first.

They're a scam and your story is really, really common with fly-by-night e-stores like those. I'll be surprised if you hear from them ever again. Actually, if you do hear from them, they'll probably try to sell you an upgrade before they offer to ship anything back, then once you refuse the upgrade they'll either hike up the price or just drop your call.

Exactly, thats why I just took it to paypal and made it a full blown claim right away.

I wonder if they will respond. A completed listing search shows that they have sold a few 1k+ things today alone and a more in the past few days. So I am fairly confident that they have my funds are locked down right now.

That said I took my bike buying approach (read used because I can afford to buy a little higher quality that way) and put it to cameras and I bought a used Sony A100. I know that alot of people don't like Sony DLSR but I read almost every review I could find and I am happy with this purchase and the price was more than right.

Just to follow up.... Putting a clamp down on their PP account did the trick. They refunded my money in full.

New question, I fell for their upgrade scam over the phone and got some ****ty upgraded lenses and batteries for $130. I put that on my debit card. I have contacted the my bank. The person at the bank called J&K to lean on them a little bit to see if they would issue a refund on their own and was told to call back a little later. They didn't pick up. Is this a situation that calls for a charge-back?

I open up a paypal dispute as SOON as I feel something is iffy, this generally means that they'll get on the ball, or in 20 days, Paypal steps in.

I had one situation with PayPal: The seller didn't ship, claimed he had, and then stopped responding. I filed a claim with PayPal, and they refunded my money. It was an eBay sale, and eBay canceled his account with them, too.

I've seen a number of shady camera companies out there, some change their name often just so they can keep finding new victims. I'd not hesitate to start going down the PayPal chargeback chain if you don't get what you purchased.

They refunded the money though pay pal and then again they refunded the full amount to my debit card. I did the honest thing and took what they owed and returned the rest. Im just happy to be done with the whole situation
