Patrick Swayze given just weeks to live

March 6, 2008 - 7:32AM

Patrick Swayze only has five weeks to live, unconfirmed reports from the US claim.

The Ghost actor is suffering from a particularly vicious form of pancreatic cancer which has now spread to his other organs, and is not responding to treatment, US magazine the National Enquirer reports.

After being diagnosed with the disease in late January, Swayze - who is a fully qualified pilot - has been flying his private Beechcraft aeroplane to Stanford University's highly-respected cancer centre in Palo Alto, California, for radical chemotherapy.

However, the three doses of chemotherapy failed to significantly shrink the tumour, and doctors have now told the 55-year-old to prepare for the end, according to the Enquirer.

A source close to the star said: "He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure.

"It's time to start praying for a miracle."

Patrick - who is married to actress Lisa Niemi - has lost more than 20lbs in the last few weeks, and is surviving solely on a liquid diet as he is having trouble keeping down solids.

Reports are yet to be confirmed, and a representative for the actor said: "I don't know anything about this, I'll have to get back to you with more details."

Sufferers of pancreatic cancer typically have a survival rate of less than five per cent, but as the cancer has spread to Patrick's other vital organs he has an even lower chance of beating the disease.

Swayze first shot to fame starring as bad boy Johnny Castle in the hit 1987 movie Dirty Dancing before going on to star in a host of hit films including Ghost and Point Break.

Pancreatic cancer is quite possibly the worst one to get...

They are all repeating the Enquirer. I'll wait for more reputable reports.

If it's true, it blows big time....

Pheard, all your links say that according to the National Inquirer, Swayze has cancer. Are you trying to prove Bluebottle's point?

They are all associated articles off google.

If the enquirer's story wasn't legit, why would FOX NEWS put it up?

That stinks. I like Swayze - I'll never forget that SNL skit he did with Chris Farley.

If true it is a horrible thing. He is still so vey young. Truly a tradgedy. In an early episode of MASH he played a soldier who was found to have terminal leukemia. How odd.

What can we do to help? How can we help to fight this type of cancer in general?

Fox News is worse than the Enquirer. I'm not even being that sarcastic.

I'll skip the FOX NEWS jokes.

From FOX NEWS:

Quote:
"Dirty Dancing" star Patrick Swayze was diagnosed in late January with pancreatic cancer that has spread to other organs and he has five weeks left to live, according to the National Enquirer.

By the time national star supports these claims, I'll be laughing. Ha.

Just as an aside FOX NEws is fairly even handed in its reporting. There is a difference between reportage as it were and Hannity and his sidekick or that O'Reilly fellow. News and opinion are supposed to be two seprate things...just ask the NY Times about the McCain story they recently ran!

Now from the mundane to the sublime and discussing life and death issues......................

The Enquirer does get some legitimate scoops on occasion, but I'll wait until a more substantial source comes forward. I really hope this report is false though.
