Help out a city gal.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to go "do cows".

What is that, you ask??? I was told that we are supposed to go brand them, de-horn them and castrate them.

After I got all "ewwwwwwwwww!!!" about it, I went on the rampage about how there is no way in Heaven that I would do that to an animal.

I was told that it's not really a big thing, it's part of the COWGIRL life. (yah and so??)

I ain't no friggen moowoman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *attitude kickin' in*

So really, now. If I can't weasel out of this somehow, what am I really supposed to expect here?

Oh by the way, this trip to go and do all of this is supposed to be a gift. (??)

Did you get a receipt? Cuz, you know, an outing to cut a cow's nuts off ranks slightly below a gift card to The Plain White Sock Emporium on the Gift-O-Meter.

It will be a great thing to include on your resume if you ever apply with the IRS...

Sorry babe, but you got roped into some **** there.

The cows are going to be unhappy to say the least.
It's going to be loud.
It's going to stink.
Both human and bovine blood is usually involved.
Cattle gates pinch fingers.
You are going to be picking dust buggers out of your nose that smell like cow and burning hair for the next few days.

The bolded out parts I didn't even think of.

I asked about how she is going to do stitches and she said that you just spray some stuff on the wound and it heals.

When I asked about the cutting off of the horns she said she uses a little power saw and then a hot thingy and it sears it so it stops the bleeding.

I honestly don't know about all of this here.

I'm suddenly feeling sick *cough*

You were going to be around cows, and it never occurred to you that there might be a pungent aroma in the air?

At first you think it's the cow s*** that smells bad.
Then the branding starts and there is the smell of burning hair....much worse.
If you then get a whiff of blood, well...it's bad.

When you mention it, though, the rancher will just say, "Smell likes money."

Those ware not cows... they are bull calves that you will be turning into steers that will eventually become yummy steaks.

The castration isn't nearly as bad for you as it is for the steer and the smell of the cauterization of the horns and branding will be nausea inducing although after a few dozen it should not bother you as much.

Just glad it isn't me, (and I've done this).

You might try rubbing a small amount of Vick's Vapo rub under your nose to block the smell.

Practice this before you go:

Wave a handkerchief in front of your nose. Tilt your head back. Say: "My! I think I have the vapors!"

Someone will bring you a chair and sit you in the shade and not even ask what's wrong. You'll probably even get a nice lemonade from the deal.
