Wow.. what are your circumstances that qualify you for AMT? I keep waiting for it to bite me in the ass.

Not to mention you avoid penalties and interest doing that.

I have been lucky..spending at least half of the last three tax years in a tax free zone. I have been living high on the hog. This will be my first normal tax year in a long time. Not looking forward to it.

well, why should you pay for roads and national forests when you're in the sandbox? seems fair to me

AMT sucks royal. First you have to pay, even though you may have really, really, really tried to plan correctly, and on top of that you have to try (again) to figure out what you should withhold for the next year so you don't get any more nasty surprises. It's especially hard if you have two incomes.

The other bad part about 'qualifying' for AMT is that you're in a bracket where you won't be getting one of those 'economic stimulus' checks to spend on schwag.

Count yourself lucky. Paying taxes is a privilege that the majority of the world's population would love to have.

I think AMT puts you in the top 10% of Americans right? not a bad place to be I guess.

Neat. When do you start to co-op where you guys all build your own roads and hire your own police force?

paying AMT puts you a lot lower than 10% in this country.

i don't mind paying taxes, believe it or not. nobody wants to pay a lot, but i understand the need. but when the money is frittered away by idiots in washington, i get ticked

and when i try and do the right thing, and save for my retirement so i don't have to depend on someone else, and the feds say that's good and don't tax it, but my city does, the city can kiss my @ss. it's not the money, it's the principle
