so, i'm watching the BBC news last night. They had a segment about people living out near the LA airport in a bunch of tents because they lost their houses in the sub-prime debacle. that's sad enough, of course, but they interviewed one lady who was trying to find work. they asked her what her plan was and she said she needed to work so she could get a car.
i was like, WTF? then i remembered that this is america and specifically los angeles. then it suddenly all made sense.
