    Comics/ Graphic Novels

Do you read comics? What comics are you currently reading?
I'm not really into the superhero stuff, unless it is ragging on that genre, such as The Boys...

I really enjoy 100 Bullets, and just started reading Loveless by the same author.

Some of the european comics blow my mind, such as work by Enki Bilal, but it hard to find in english.

Ghost in the Shell, the uncensored original Shirow Masmune graphic novel version is avaliable from Dark Horse Comics.

If you count Japanese manga, i found Azumanga Daioh and Yotsuba& to be refreshing as well.

I grew up with comics, and I still read them, so I'll be glad to play. If you don't get into the superheroes, have you ever read Love and Rockets?

I love the Dark Tower series from Stephen King. They came out with a comic series of these books. Very cool.

Yeah, i need to branch out to manga, but i have no idea where to start. The magna sections around here are huge, way more selection than the other sections, it is a bit overwhelming.
Recommendations? I will look into ghost in the shell...

My daughter's current boyfriend is a comic artist and a comic character. And a ninja.

    It's very confusing...

My fave of all time is still Sandman. The Last Man is also pretty cool.

Anything by Warren Ellis (especially Transmetropolitan). Fables by Bill Willingham. Just picked up Absolute Sandman V1 and Gaiman is blowing my mind. Try Preacher also and early Constantine/Hellblazer.
    Oh...then there's the granddaddy-Watchmen.

i'll just post my current pull list (some are limiteds, some are ongoings - guess which!):

    Abe Sapien: The Drowning
    Amazing Spider-Girl
    Angel: After the Fall
Anita Blake Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures
    Bat Lash
    B.P.R.D.: 1946
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight
    Captain America
    Countdown
Dark Tower: The Long Road Home
    Devi
    Flash
    Freddy vs Jason vs Ash
    Gen13
    Ghost Rider
    Ghost Whisperer
    Green Arrow/Black Canary
    Green Lantern Corps
    Incredible Hercules
    Jonah Hex
    Justice League of America
    Justice Society of America
    Madame Mirage
    Metal Men
    Mighty Avengers
    New Avengers
    The Order
    Punisher War Journal
    Runaways
    Scalped
    Serenity: Better Days
    Sheena, Queen of the Jungle
    She-Hulk
    Suburban Glamour
    Teen Titans
    Thor
    Trials of Shazam
    The Twelve
    Ultimates 3
    Ultimate Spider-Man
Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters
War Is Hell: First Flight of the Phantom Eagle
    Witchblade
    Wonder Woman
    WWH Aftersmash: Warbound

    i think that's everything.

obviously, i do like superhero books - but that said, Scalped is probably the best written "mainstream" book out there now that Y: The Last Man ended.

looking forward to Secret Invasion (especially since Marvel will be launching a new "Excalibur" book - Captain Britain and MI:13 - during the event).

not really looking forward to Final Crisis so much. Countdown has been a real mess.

dealing with books no longer in print, i'm trying to fill out my run of James Robinson's Starman (just need the "Stars My Destination" arc and the final issue, and i'm done) as well as my Gold Key Man From U.N.C.L.E. collection. after i'm done with those, i'll fill out my 1968 Doctor Strange run..

yeah, i like comics a little bit, i guess.

I've read transmet, preacher, watchmen, and sandman. Love and rockets is one i pick up in the stores, but never been tempted enough to buy for some reason.

Actually, i just picked up scalped, without really knowing much about it, so i am glad you say it is worth it, have not had a chance to read it myself yet. I also picked up one called Fell.....it's another crime series. I am glad that there is a resurgence in crime comics.

If you get a chance to read The Killer i recommend it. It's a french comic that is just now getting translated, and i like the content. If we could get more of those great euro comics over here i would be very happy....

yeah, Scalped is really good - it took me a while to get into it, even though i've been picking it up since launch. the art put me off a little at first, too. but now it's probably my third favourite book (the first two being Buffy and Spider-Girl).

i'll admit, some of the stuff on my pull list is just there due to inertia. it took me a long time to cancel Wolverine: Origins, even though it was crap.

Damn you, Joss Whedon! Daaamn yoooou! (Okay, I knew about, and have the first volume of, Buffy Season 8, but the other two are news to me.)

I'm pretty new to the comic/graphic novel thing. I've read Watchmen, V For Vendetta, and Serenity: Those Left Behind, and pick up new volumes of Buffy Season 8 and Astonishing X-Men (More Whedon. ) when I think about it/they come out.

There are a few graphic novels I'm interested in. Unfortunately, the only actual dedicated comic book store I knew of shut down at some point, so I'm limited to the small comic section behind the rather more sizeable manga section at the Barnes & Noble. (Plus I'm lazy)

Serenity: Better Days just started this week - it's a 3-issue limited from Dark Horse.

Angel: After The Fall is a sort-of ongoing from IDW - issue 5 just came out this week. essentially, it's "Angel season six."

I have heard that the original Tank Girl is good, but i cannot really find it. Maybe if i go digging around the bins of the comic shop i can dig a few up, but have not had the time lately.

Speaking of Crumb....Last year they had an exhibition of his original artwork and comic strips. It was really amazing to see the comics as ink on paper, instead of the reproductions. I'm not sure if it was a traveling exhibition, or just exclusive to SF.
And if you have never seen the documentary called Crumb then you should rush out and see it NOW!

If you like crime comics I HIGHLY recommend Brubaker's Criminal. If you're into zombies at all (even if you're not), I strongly suggest The Walking Dead by Kirkman.
